What I always wonder is, for those of you who can speak more than one language fluently, do your thoughts themselves switch between languages or do they remain in your native tongue?

Well, like I said, the salespeople from Missouri probably called it that, and the French adopted it, humoring the McAir people.

What I always wonder is, for those of you who can speak more than one language fluently, do your thoughts themselves switch between languages or do they remain in your native tongue?

For my part, I think and dream in French in the everday life. But when I went in Italy for month (I'm half Italian), I started dreaming and thinking in Italian.

And when I am with english speakers for example during the holidays, if I read some books in English ("Combats" from Stephen Coonts, my last!!), so I think in english... Even if it isn't very good English, it's easier when you have not to translate in your head everything you heard and you tell...

It is funny sometimes, when you remember something you read, you tell, but you cannot remember in wich language it was... It's something curious with human brain...

Interesting thing

The fact is that we haven't the same  species  of bird in Europe than in North America And even when the birds' families are biologicaly the same, the common classifications and names are different.

For example, there is a lot of "épervier" variety in the world. But the one known in North America are often translate as sparrowhawks, hawks or goshawks...
(the more common species of "épervier" here is the Eurasian Sparrowhawk)
And some other hawk species are translate in France as "faucon", that more often mean "falcon" or "kestrel"...

So I am not surprise if you say to me that in Canada the osprey is a sort of "épervier", of hawk.

Here in France, the Osprey is the "Balbuzard Pêcheur" or "Aigle de Mer" (Sea Eagle)...
Actually, the Osprey isn't a hawk, a sparrowhawk or even an eagle... The osprey is the only member of his family. I knew that in France, he is compared to an eagle...
But I didn't know that in Canada he was compared to an hawk...

Why not, after all ?    that's an interresting thing, Ollie

Well, I know it's called a balbuzard, but épervier is another name for it, at least, we use it here.

We call hawks buse over here, such as la buse à queue rousse that we see at the airport all the time.  Not to be confused with la dame rousse au buste!

Anyhow, today is Eagle Day, we leave for the airshow in less than 7 hours!

The birds names are something very complicated... They are to much of them!! But it is a really good thing for our plane's name
