for the Fulmar and Albacore and Anson floatplanes the ones from the old Frog/Novo Fairey Swordfish are ideal (the drgs appeared in an old issue of the R&D Newsletter)

for the Roc, Spitfire Mk.1 and Hurricane the floats from the Frog/Eastern Blackburn Shark are ideal

iv not found suitable drawings (HELP!) for the Gladiator, Lysander and Kittyhawk so cannot confirm float sizes or styles for them altho the Seafox for the former and again the Shark might suffice for the others?

the Bolingbroke had Edo type ones iv not checked for length but possibly a 1/48 Norseman might suffice?

if anyones resin ones? iv got moulds for the Swordfish and Shark floats

happy modelling, cheers, joe

ps. others coming to mind are the Rufe float for the S Korean AF Texan, modified Merit/Smar 1/48 Swordfish floats for the C.47 Skytrain, and how bout a chopped Airfix Sunderland hull for the seaplane Lancaster and York...verry cool!

For the Spitfire of any variant or the Hurricane as well, why not use the actual floats designed for the Spitfire floatplane? Somewhere in my stash at home I have one of those cheap Eastern Express style 1/72 scale kits of the Spitfire floatplane. The Spitfire itself is pretty crap, but the floats and strut assemblies are well usable.

the Mk.1 Spitfire and Hurricane as mocked up in 1940 used Blackburn Shark/Roc floats, altho the Hurricane was drawn up to utilise those from a Hawker Osprey and the Spitfire Mk.V and IX as built utilised specially designed floats by Folland

happy floating, cheers, joe

Any of you heard of this?

http://www.aircruisers.com/pdf/EC120B%20Em...20Flotation.pdf

Was looking around to see if floats have ever been factory-installed on Bell 222's (can you tell my AMT "CHiPs" model just arrived?) and found this emergency flotation deployment system....

Next one up for next molding and casting run (someday):

Pulled from the CA Duck and reworked for molding into a generic, centerline 1:48 float.

Eddie needs some floats for his B17/KC 135

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

JHM, what would be a good pair of 1/48th scale floats for an Me-109 floatplane?

One of my membership kits from the Airfix club turned out to be an Airfix 1/48 Me-109F   (was meant to be a 1/48 Seafire, which I actually wanted) so it is going to be Wiffed for sure!!

Thinking an Me-109W floatplane racer.

Cheers

For pure aesthetics, I'd go with one of these:  (read: "I don't know")....   :o

Floats with Smooth-On™ casting resin.

Hey Jason: recognize these?  I molded and casted my own 1:72 wing floats for you.

Coming your way with your original parts via Canada Post!

Next batch of victims:

- Cut and reworked seaplane float/hull from the CA Duck (will look great on a Corsair)

and

- some very nice Tamiya Seiran floats (gonna make my own Dewoitine HD-780 from a Tamiya D-520 so I don't have to pay $$$$ for the Signifer resin version).

Hi John,

Nice floats you have there.

I've read too that the Spitfire Mk.I floatplane was trialed using the Roc floats (it never flew though as the sea trials proved it wasn't any good on water), I've also read that the Roc used Blackburn Shark to speed up development, so the logical conclussion is that Shark floats would work for a Spit Mk.I conversion.  Modelcraft make a Shark with floats  <_<

My Spitfire Mk.V Floatplane was the Eastern Express kit and as Wooksta says the floats are the only bit worth keeping, I used an Airfx Mk.Vb instead, here's a photo of it:

I am such a tease...!  That was before I got my paid PhotoBucket account and I probably had to delete old pics to make room for new.  No longer a problem!

JHM, what would a full set of various floats from you run?  I may not need them all now, but they clearly could be useful in the future.
