That looks great Fred! Very credible too: if a photo-realistic pic of this turned up I wouldn't question it being a real thing.

Now it's given me the idea of doing a Maxxon turret with the Israeli-style twin 20mm on it, but using naval Oerlikon guns (kits are available) instead of aircraft Hispanos.

The wheels are stuck onto cocktail sticks and the clamps are new ones I got at expo with rubber "feet" to reduce the risk of pinging.

If it's not already too late, test th eclamps before you spray anything in them. It's not unknown for rubber to react to solvents like thinners or aerosol propellant.

1/72 on 1/76 explains the huge (but cool  ) chunkiness of the wheels.

The Soviets did use big wheels, but yeah, the scale discrepancy does help make them bigger.  All axles had to be narrowed to make it look like some effort had been made to tuck the tyres under the guards.

I'm getting the urge to do similar in 1/35.

It'd look VERY cool with extended mudguards to cover the new wheels. Easy enough with Evergreen at the rear, but a bit more of a challenge at the front. You could just replace the curved mudguard with a flat surfaces one to match the rear, or you could kipper the curved guards by cutting them down the middle then getting the Evergreen strip and filler out.

Fantastic conversion and bigger tires really look good. The tires give it a six wheeled BTR-40 look. I think the tread on the two front ones is going the wrong way, but I don't think it would matter much on the real vehicle.

Yes Frank, you are right.  I got the front wheels swapped over.  They are not glued (friction fit) so if I remember i'll swap them over.

I don't have an M16 but I do have a 1/35 BTR 152-E in the stash.   By SKIF.  In the box it looks complex with the parts broken down more than strictly necessary.  Reviews claim complex construction and confusing instructions.
