Here's my start-off pic for the One Week Build.

It is what it says on the box, an Airfix Swift FR5, but it won't look like any FR5 you've seen before, oh no.  ;D

Actually no, but it may have a taller fin.

Wonderful, as the Rules say the 1 week GB started at 00.01 this morning, that's exactly when I started my build. Worked on it for 30 mins before going to bed, and went to post a pic here, and the site was down!!!!!  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Anyway, I got this far by 00.30 this morning.

The Airfix Swift is quite a nice model to build, relatively simple and yet well detailed. It will be built pretty well OOB, apart from a few slight mods  ;)  but its main Whiffness will be in the colour scheme, and that's a while away yet of course..

You too huh?

Yeah I thought the Airfix Swift looked nice in the box when I nicked the wings off it: pity I find most of the aircraft apart from the wings so unappealing then...

It's not the prettiest aircraft of its time by a long chalk, the Hunter takes that accolade easily, but it has a certain brutish charm somehow.

Plus it fits my 'Trials' theme a treat as they had so many of them going spare. So many that quite a few were sent to Oz as targets for the nuclear tests there!  :o

They deseved no less...

I think the upturned nose is one of the things that most offends my eye: it makes it look like a shrew from the side...

The fin needs to be further back.  The nose isn't as offensive to the eye if that horrible belly tank is left off.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

I agree. That small fin and the nose really kill the looks of this aircraft in my eyes. I did think about getting one and changing what i don't like but i ended up choosing the SAAB Lansen for the idea i had in mind at the time.
Looking forward to see this one.

Belly tanks like this always make planes look like pregnant guppies to me. Even the Lansen...   :-X
