Looking on here too, in a passive mode, not sure I have seen the Airfix kit built as a blog.

Valiants are now in the "too big for display" bucket for me, still like the look of this build and has some tasty teasers for mods mentioned.

Stuart - it's the fuselage plug.  I wanted to keep some jeopardy in the thread....  All will be revealed shortly 😎

The Plug, or "Wot I Did Wrong".  I stuck the fuselage plug together in isolation, which meant when I stuck the nose and rear fuselage to it, there was a definite mis-match between the diameter of the plug and the kit bits.

This photo shows this problem well.  With a sense is impending doom about lots of PSR, my subconscious came to the rescue and suggested wrapping some very thin plasticard around it as a collar.  This has worked tolerably well, with only a modicum of filler needed to blend.

In retrospect, I should have only cleaned up the plug bits, and them properly dry fitted them to nose and rear fuselage components.  I could then have used plasticard shims of the correct thickness to pack out the slighter narrower plug.  That would have save me a lot of time and faff, and would have been a better solution all round.

Ho hum!

It's surprising how many conversion kit's parts don't actually fit the model they're supposed to convert.

Makes you wonder if they ever did a test build.............  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I think a lot of resin manufacturers, especially garage kit makers, fail to take in the shrinkage that occurs with many/most resins, or, if they do, they then forget that different resins can shrink different amounts if they use a different source of resin.

It may not be a lot but it can make a difference.
