Wanted: Testors Convair XF-92A (the X-plane predecessor to the F-102 Delta Dagger)

I want this for a what-if (of course) so I only want the relatively common Testors boxing (white box): leave the original Hawk kits for the collectors and their deep pockets.

Reason: I got one off ebay last year for a sensible price and there seemed to be plenty around. I tried to start it recently by straightening the warped wings in warm water. That did not go well: they promptly warped more and are now unusable. Thing is, I've bought aftermarket bits and another different kit to plunder for bits, so I don't want to give up on the idea. The fuselage from the ruined one is going into a fantastical whiff, and now 'm looking for another good one to complate the original idea. Trouble is, they all seem to have vanished off ebay now...

Erm, does it have to be an XF92 wing on the fuselage?  IIRC, it's a 60 degree sweep, so perhaps an Su 9 Fishpot could give you a wing?

Looked at all those options and I don't like them. The XF-92 wing is quite large for a fighter.

I'm putting a totally different wing on the ruined one for the 1WkGB, but that's pure fantasy. The original idea I had before I screwed it up was quite conservative so I need the original wing for it.

They bob up on eBay pretty frequently from looking at completed auctions.  But for a one week build, timing is everything! Maybe the wings from a Lindberg transport rocket?  They are one piece and very thin. OR to fix the warped bits, rubber band them to a flat surface (metal, ceramic tile, cutting board) and dunk them in very hot water, let cool, and check again.  If necessary, lather, rinse and repeat.  It's called "plastic" for a reason!

The one-week build is sorted: what I want now is another, pristine one to do the original idea I had before I ruined the wings, not for the 1WkGB.

The way I screwed up the wings in the first place was fastening them to a flat surface and putting them in hot water! I think what happened is that because they have thick ridges at the root and leading edge, they expanded differentially and that's what curled them. The clamps also sank into the surface in some places. What I should have done, in hindsight, was glued them together as far as they'd go, clamp the warped tips together, then leave them suspended above a radiator.

Sounds like those wings were totally screwed before you even got them. Some parts just refuse to be built. I think a new kit is your best choice.

Ack! The hot water method works, but you have to watch the temperature and the soak time.  Have patience, a kit will show up on eBay.

No they really weren't: that's the annoying thing. Just a bit of warpage at the tips that was eminently solvable with the RIGHT process... :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:
