As the title says. Due to the Operation Downfall GB, I have been inspired to get some of the Japanese late-war aircraft. The problem at the moment is finding a decently priced kit of the Kikka in 1/72. There are a couple of AZ Models boxings for sale on eBay, but they are going for north of two hundred pounds

That's ludicrous, you can get a 1/32 scale kit of one for half that much!  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Pegasus did one back in the day.  Think it was one of his later kits that was somewhat better.

I have had notification of an AZ kit on eBay, only it's not there now, as I bought it. ;D

It's the J9N1-K two-seat 'What-it' variant, which is the single-seat kit with extra fuselage halves and a different canopy. I shall have to look through my reference material to see if there was a night-fighter variant proposed, which is also a kit by AZ Models, which could be made from this version.

A bit of digging around on the internet found the instructions, which are for the trainer, this kit, and the nightfighter. The only difference, other than the markings, are a few PE aerials. So I shall be constructing a Night Fighter version.

Any Kikka beyond the single-seater is fictional, esp. any night fighter - at least with the original engines. The Kikka prototype was barely able to fly with them. But the idea of a two-seat night fighter à la Me 262 B is still alluring, did one myself some time ago.

Yes, I am reading up on the aircraft at the moment in Japanese Secret Projects 1. There it is called the Nakajima Kitsuka, and there are several versions listed, including a reconnaissance version, but no night fighter. This is whiff-world though, so I can do what I please if I wish.

Exactly, and it's a pity some people here don't remember that...............
