I don't know how it came to me but, I got this funny notion about merging a B-26 Marauder and, Il-28 Beagle to produce an early Martin jet bomber.

Figure the  relatively narrow wings from the IL-28 might not be too awkward to fit. Fitting the entire IL-28 tail unit looks like an easier option than grafting on its rear fuselage due to fuselage dimensions differences.

I'm going to dispense with the glass nose and fit a "solid" one instead. Of course, I'll now have to source a suitable Il-28 😉😂.

Same thought's occurred to me several times.

I think it's due to the B-26's circular-section fuselage and relatively short wings, both of which look more "jet age" than most WWII bombers.

👍🙂
The rather tubby B-26 fuselage in general and, the rear fuselage taper in particular are the issues but, where there's a whif, theres a way!

Both aircraft had the same wingspan at 22m. Wing area was about the same too. I think the wider B-26 fuselage just made the wings look shorter than they were.

I'm in 2 minds as to whether or not to dispense with the rear gun position😊. I'll be keeping the same side by side seating in the cockpit with both airmen equipped with bang seats.
Anyway, I've just ordered an Italeri Il-28 si, we'll find out soon enough how it's all going to go together, or not! 😂

The old Soviet stuff always had a tail gunner. Even a lot of the supposedly civilian transport types.

Yep, I meant the B-26 wings were short by comparison with other WWII bombers. It's relatively high wing loading and consequent high landing speed were what gave it a poor reputation as difficult to fly, although of course only a few years later such landing speeds became perfectly normal.
