Quote from: PR19_Kit on June 27, 2026, 04:13:03 AMAfter the hassle meeted out by the current heatwave, causing me to withdraw from the OP Downfall GB, I've been giving some thought to the whole GB business itself, from my own point of view of course.

I think I'll be giving them a miss in future, I don't mind moderating, as I'm already down for the SAR GB, but actually building something to a time frame doesn't really gel with my current retired and laid back life style, so that's it I'm afraid.

I'll be building what I want, when I want, and if it's cool enough too!

Fully understand Kit, I have sat out a few GB's when I knew life was too busy or the theme was of lessor interest, but I came back refreshed and hope to do the ones that inspire me.  I have found one submission per GB helps. Retired life is pretty great!

Quote from: NARSES2 on June 21, 2026, 12:30:26 AMThe phrase "between the wars" has always amused me slightly. We all know what it means, but if you look at the amount of conflicts that took place, some major, some minor, between them then it opens up a whole new series of scenarios.

I think the only continents to avoid conflict were N.America and Australia ?
In geopolitical terms North America is considered to include everything from Greenland down to the border of Panama with Columbia, and the Carribean.
The Mexican Revolution period ran from 1911 to 1938, plus there's the US interventions in Central America in the '20s and '30s etc.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.  Revelling in numptytism.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Yes, I'm aware of all that, but I was merely responding to
Chris.

Must admit I've always considered Central America and the Carribean  to be separate when it comes to geo-politics, but I suppose strictly speaking you are right
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I think that part of it stems from the various "how-many continents are there"* models and the difference between Northern America and North America in the six-continents model that's dominant in Latin-America which considers the Western hemisphere as a single continent, which it is. The first being Greenland, Canada and the US and it's defined by the dominant language/culture, English speaking and Anglo-American. Middle America being Mexico down to the Panama-Colombia border with South America.
Some versions include Colombia and Venezuela. Again primarily a linguistic and cultural division.

*I'm in the four continents camp, which is the only logical and not culturally biased model based on land masses being contiguous and independent:
Africa-EurAsia, the Western Hemisphere, Oceania-Australia and Antarctica.
