So after careful consideration, I finally settled on choosing Vallejo Model Air # 71.115 Blue Grey as I felt that came closest to the true blue-black color of the Blackbirds. Vallejo # 71.052 Anthracite Grey, which I didn't use, would have been my second choice.

Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Now for those who think the SR-71 was still pure 100% black, I point you to the below photos I saw on the Net. Notice the blue tint in the paint color on the Blackbirds. This is particuarly revealing when the Blackbirds are viewed in direct sunlight.

The blue grey color looks good. Carry on!
However, calling them the blue birds would have sounded all wrong!

And folk would have kept making Gracie Fields references... confusing the USAF.  ;D

Plus, the "Blue Bird" would have been easily corrupted...

Calling this done.

Not much to this dinky little model. No markings or insignia on the D-21 as the real ones never had any. Two spare part missiles in the scratch built weapons bay. Tried to take some pics with the camera flash on and off to somehow show the blue-black paint color I used. And they might not be readable, but put a few spare decals on the base such as Lockheed Martin and US Air Force, plus the famous Skunk Works logo. Gotta have the skunk.

Neat. Modern cameras are too smart for their own good, they are convinced you are taking a drunken party selfie and adjust everything accordingly. I usually have to post-process my pix to get the subtler colour tones good.
Cheers.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
