So after careful consideration, I finally settled on choosing Vallejo Model Air # 71.115 Blue Grey as I felt that came closest to the true blue-black color of the Blackbirds. Vallejo # 71.052 Anthracite Grey, which I didn't use, would have been my second choice.

Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Now for those who think the SR-71 was still pure 100% black, I point you to the below photos I saw on the Net. Notice the blue tint in the paint color on the Blackbirds. This is particuarly revealing when the Blackbirds are viewed in direct sunlight.
