Do we want to hold a One Week Build GB this Year ?

Yes
No

Mossie

I've voted yes. I think it's a good GB, with plenty of entries and a reasonable finish rate considering the challenge, which is part of the appeal.

I do hope to take part however I've got a poor finish rate, usually because I bite off more than I can chew. I'm looking to find something simpler this year. I think if my brain says I can do it in a few days, I may have a chance of completing it.

I always think it's important to consider the colour scheme. You can pull an all-nighter to do more building work, but drying cycles for coats of paint/decals/varnish are non-negotiable. Work backwards from the last clear coat, then the decals, then the last colour coat etc, and that will tell you when the build phase has to be finished by. If that's more than about 7 days before the end, then it's not a viable project.

Absolutely minimal PSR and a very simple paintjob are essential if you want to actually finish IMO.
That and don't pick up a white primer spray can thinking it's clear...

I'm formulating an idea which is appealing, since it uses a mixture of leftovers from other builds and kits ruined by mistakes. Haven't remotely got a backstory for it yet though. Also needs a decision on how much work to do and how much to swerve/gloss over.

I've always found that when I do something "safe" for the 1WkGB, like a paint & decals job on a standard model, it's tended to be an also-ran. On the other hand, when I've done something with an over-ambitious build followed by a simple paint job, it's tended to do better. The key to the latter is having a rock-solid, every-detail-decided plan in advance, so that once the GB starts I can motor through it without having to stop and dither between options. I am (you may have noticed), fantastically good at dithering between options, to the point of not getting anything actually done...

Of course, this is all just me and my brain: your mileage and psychology may differ...

I have an idea for a 1/72 vehicle build.  I need to have a rummage in the stash.
