'Peduncle' sounds like a word you'd hear in the Old West - 'specially up in them Mountains. ;)

Or someone... no, let's not go there...  :banghead:

Quote from: frank2056 on May 28, 2026, 07:15:38 AMThanks for all the comments! I'm not really sure of what I'm doing. Some of the diorama supplies I've seen are for trains and wargaming and not very convincing. I still need to make a tree/bush and rearrange some of the grass and groundwork.

Trees & bushes are problematic.
Most of the commercially available versions are too fake looking, even the better, expensive ones don't really look right.
Homemade versions can look excellent but they take a lot of time & effort to construct.
I've read that the roots of small saplings & shrubs can make a good framework to start with.
Like what you've done so far!

This is my experience as well.
I went down the home made path to try and pull this 1/72 dio of a pranged BE-2 off.. the tree sort of works, but not quite and was a lot of work to get there
The tree form using the lots and lots of twisted wire method, followed by very fine foam and then assorted scatter to try and pull off the foliage.

I know William Brittains do some model trees and some of them are quite impressive. Look good on a wargames table anyway.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I've used Woodland Scenics stuff for most of my model railway layouts in the past. It's not cheap but very realistic, and the product range is well thought out. Sadly their web site is a nightmare to figure out a first sight, but this should take you straight to the 'Trees' bit. They do LOADS of other stuff as well.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

The pranged BE-2 looks great! I'll play with the various methods I have on hand. What works at HO, 1/72 and smaller scales often doesn't quite work at 1/35... although that tree might work as a small oak or even a cottonwood tree in 1/35

"Old West" of Australia?
🤔

In the US it's more of an Appalachia, land of the "hillbillies", and Southern stereotype.

In Canada it's Alberta.
