Wow H, that really IS going back in time! Even before I joined the Forum, amazing.

I wondered why I hadn't seen it before, but it looks prety darn good.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Thought you'd been here since before the internet was invented Kit...

That was the first thing I ever finished (though not the first thing I ever started... )

Hehehehe, not quite. I joined a fortnight after I retired in 2008, I'd never had enough time before then!

But it seems that was actually BEFORE you built the Manx 'thingie', but maybe I hadn't found out about Group Builds by that time.

It was called the Triskelion (heraldic name for the Manx symbol), but the group build was "Flying Saucery".

I think i've got one of them somewhere as well.

And then there's the MiG-23-01 Faithless which was the STOL alternative to the swing-wing MiG-23. This had one normal engine, two lift engines in the middle of the fuselage, and MiG-21-style wings. Very easy to convert to a tailless delta. There was a 1/72nd kit by ARTmodel (thanks Fred): I've got one upstairs somewhere.

I don't have one of them.  It's much more than a MiG 23 with lift engines and MiG 21 wings.

Could that be ARTmodel H?

Quote from: Gondor on May 03, 2026, 11:19:09 AMBoth can end up looking like the subject aircraft. I believe the Italeri kit, formerly the ESCI kit, to be the better of the two. I prefer the breakdown of that kit to the Hasegawa one.

Same assessment here. The ESCI kit is really nice, I prefer it to the Hasegawa kit.

Yes, that's the one - cheers!

(I'll change the original post)

What I had in mind was giving it bigger wings, no tailplanes, no lift engines, a more western-looking fin and forward-retracting undercarriage in the wing roots, and presenting it as a Fighter by Fairey, evolved from the FD.2.

........Single engine, with Harrier-esque swiveling nozzles front and a bifurcated tail nozzle from the Yak-38.

That is special Dizzy.  I have a soft spot for the unloved Yak-38

I also have the ART MODEL kit of that machine.

I confirm it should be...
