Finally getting to a Whiff this year. This has been on the stash for a while but just started it this past weekend. I've always thought that not further developing the N/AW A-10 was a wasted opportunity so when I saw the Hobby Boss kit I thought I'd give it a go. I'll save the backstory for when it's done but recent events have proven my idea wasn't so far off.

So far as a kit, it's very simple, but not very good. I've found Hobby Boss to be very hit or miss and this is closer to a miss but I think I can wrangle it into what I want.

Looks very interesting to me!
I found that a fair conversion to the two seat A-10 can be done using an F-14 canopy. as it doesn't exactly match the windscreen just leave it open.

Reminds me that I also have that kit somewhere stashed away... Curious what become of yours!

If a production version had been constructed it was to have a canopy like that of
the F-15E rather than the separate sections.

I too have that kit, along with a couple(?) of their single-seaters, so I'll be keeping an eye on this as well.

What have you found wrong with the kit Harry?

Just some fit issues mainly. So far liberal use of black CA and sanding sticks. Not a lot of detail in the cockpit, the instrument panel decals are pretty generic, the ejection seats are also pretty blah. Trying to dress things up as best I can. There can't be more than 30 parts so it is really simple.

Starting to look A-10(ish). The fit on this thing is really a head scratcher. Really makes you wonder if they ever test build some of these kits. 🤪

Tried a new solution for gap filler. Normal for chasm like the wing root seam I'd use Miliput. I'd bought this Mig Ammo Magic Dust a while back but hadn't tried it yet. Basically it's a filler that works with CA. You put a bead of CA in the gap and then fill it up with the Magic Dust. Wait 10min, wipe off the excess and then sand smooth. Works pretty well and with some practice could replace Miliput in some cases.

Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I decided to fix the canopy. The prototype had a F-4 style canopy which is what the kit provided. However the one provided has canopy rails that were way too large for the scale. So while I start to just clean them up I remembered what @jcf had said about a single piece canopy. I confirmed that was definitely the plan and decided to just sand all the canopy rails down and rescribe into something sorta single piece looking.

Still have some more rescribing to do but hopefully have it under primer by this weekend.

Finally got her all primed up. Is there any warplane that doesn't look in matte black. Also finished 3D printing some of the weapons and such I'm going to need. Now I just need to play around with some color ideas.

Ok I'm not dead yet. Some health problems have kept me away from the bench though. I was diagnosed with stage 4b prostate cancer about a month ago. The real pisser of it is the little creep metastasized little tumors all up my spine and ribs and hips. Makes it hard to sit up in a chair for too long. So that's kept off the bench. That has not however kept me from buying more kits (wife's started giving me that look) 😁. I've got a good oncology team and we've got a good plan just going to make for less than fun summer.

So public service announcement, get your PSA checked regularly gentlemen.

I have felt well enough to at least get some paint on this build. I'm trying out an airbrush with a .2 needle and free handing the scheme. I got a first coat down however the lighter color is a bit too yellow so I'll probably try something else over it. I got all of the weapons and such assembled/printed/painted so it's shaping up.

BTW it's really tricky to paint an A-10 in a multi-color camouflage scheme if it's fully assembled. Especially trying to get around the rear engine areas is kinda tight. Hopefully I'll be able to make slow steady progress on her thru the summer.

Talk to your dr about Lutathera or Lu-177 treatment. It's expensive so you might have to go with a research type program. Side effects are minimal. It's meant for prostate tumors so just what you need. You might have to go to a university type hospital. I went to University of Chicago myself.
The A-10 is looking great!
