This is the IBG Models 1/72 scale Fw 190 D-15 Torpedo bomber. The D-15 was the last variant of the Fw D series to be developed powered by the finally refined DB603 engine. A prototype was built and flown just before the end of the war using a standard series of machine as a basis for conversion. The war ended however before more then a few flights could be made.

Whilst in the main this is a very good kit, with excellent detail and fit there are a few niggly areas. It is perhaps far to fiddly in a number of areas and the use of etch could be considered to be excessive. Although it is one of IBG's earlier tooling's and they don't tend to use quite as much etch nowadays, although they do still include a multitude of tiny parts in their kits. I've made more detailed comments regarding the kit's buildability in my Blog, so if you are thinking about getting one have a look in there.

I've finished her using Xtracrylic paints for  the main camouflage and my usual mixture for all the other ancillary items. Transfers are from the kit and behaved very well, although there was a plethora of stencils, many of which I didn't bother with.

So here we have a Fw 190 D-15 Torpedo Bomber of "Sonderkommando Zeppelin" based in Norway in the autumn of 1945.

On the whole I was quite happy with the finished product, although I have to be honest and say that unfortunately it pushed my hand/eye co-ordination to what are nowadays their limits.  :-\

That camo scheme is AMAZING Chris, most impressive.

I didn't realise that IBG always id their 'teeny weeny' bits thing, looks like it's in their blood!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Thanks Kit. I did the "sqiggles" freehand using AK Real Colours Marker Pens which proved ideal for the job.

As for IBG. I didn't use a fair few of the tiny bits provided, by the time I'd removed them from the sprue gates they would of been "super miniscule" and in all honesty were ridiculous as you wouldn't have seen them anyway  :banghead:   I think it's something we are going to see more and more of with the increase in 3D printed parts in more mainstream kits ? The fit however was excellent

Looks good Chris, as for the camo, it might be worth trying out the AK paint pens on the squiggle camo as seen that suggested as an alternative to painting

ice work, especially the squiggle.

I may well have to invest in some of those pens...

It was relatively easy to do, which suprised me. Just took some time and patience  ;)

Woooooah!  That paint!

Good job Chris.

I find it's always a lot easier to "draw" smooth lines with a pen than a brush.  I use texters a lot for the black rubbers in car windscreens.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.
