Hey Frank!

Glad to see you finally took my advice and flew that beauty in here :D

I told you the crowd here would love it.

I never thought about making one of the old WWII bombers look "Rutanned" but I'm now strongly considering grabbing one of Academy's 1/72 B-24s and trying it out.

Good to see you here, glad you're enjoying it.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

That is quite a piece of work. Most impressive!

I've always wanted to build a B-40 myself, but never got a round tuit. Maybe an advanced turbo-prop version with remote-directed cannons? Sort of a junior B-29.
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Wow, Frank....great job ! Looks amazing in the first few pics, and awesome job on the weathering. I think my favourite part is the twin tails and the contrs-props. Really gives it that extra 'umph' !

Sounds like you had a cool job....I can still hear the old CAF Chinooks....'wop-wop-wop' Hear them coming for an hour before they'd arrive ! And typical CDN style, refurb 'em for 30m and then sell the lot for 8m.....I think the Danes or somebody are still flying ours.

Seeing the in-progress shots makes me appreciate the steps that it took to get to the finished product.  Thanks for sharing those!

Thanks everyone... it kinda surprised me too, at how well it came out!    That junk model had almost been thrown away a few times over the years, but now I'm glad I kept it.   It went from the bottom of the box, to the top of the shelf in two weeks.   :)    A fellow over on the other forum had built a spliced together F-16 and F-18, and that inspired me... the parody came along at just the right time!  ;)

Captain Canada... and all:

Speaking of hearing a Chinook way before you see it, I have an interesting sound file on one of my websites that you may like to have; Official Boeing-Vertol Rotor RPM Schedule Test, showcasing the winged Chinook, the "Model 347".     VERY rare indeed! ;)

http://gunsagogo.org/sound1.htm
(it is narrated by one of the Boeing engineers...  who's, dry as dust I'm afraid     , but the "347" passing overhead at 170kts is awesome!!)

Thanks again,
*Turn it Up*
take care,
Frank

QuoteThank you kindly, elmayerle, Sisko, and dragon...  :)

QuoteCould we interest you in applying the same Rutan treatment to a B-29?

Well... now that the idea has taken form with the B-17 rebuild, I was kind of hoping others might venture out with their own interpretations... sure would make for an interesting group project, wouldn't it?  ;)

It's a lot of fun, and makes a unique conversation piece, but of course you fellas know all about that, being the "What-If" forum!  :)    :D

Take care,
Frank
Okay, that sounds like a Gentleman's Challenge!  I will attempt the "Rutanized" B-29.  However I may also add some things which might be considered "anachronistic".  I don't own a digicam (yet), so any images will be found in the SVSM.org site eventually. B)

The B Co 214th site is 'kinda' in a holding pattern at the time, as I just turned the maintaining of it over to one of the Unit personnel... until my domain account comes up for renewal, then they're taking it.

The "Guns A Go-Go" site was the original venture, as I had determined years earlier to commemorate the Unit that had mostly gone missing in history.    With the help of a Military Historian, we located 84 of the 112 former members, and came to know the location of the sole remaining ACH-47A airframe!     A few phone calls later, and PEO AVN, out of Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, was making arrangements to have the airframe recovered.     From late 1999 into April 2000, a cosmetic restoration was affected on 64-13149 "Easy Money", and the Go-Go'ers first Reunion was planned to coincide with the Dedication Ceremony of #149.

I honored their sacrifice by kitbashing one of the old Aurora 1/48 HC-1B Chinooks, into Easy's sister ship, 64-13154 "Birth Control", and presented it to #154's first Flight Engineer, who had given her, her name.     The complete kitbash process is documented at "The Art of Modeling" site.

The "Hillclimbers" site was created to commemorate the widely used lift company that my Uncle flew with in down in the Delta of South Vietnam.

The "Appalachian Art Gallery" site was set up to display some of my Artwork, which is my first love.       There's also a link on the Go-Go site to a couple other galleries.

Enjoy,
Frank

Egads Frank..that look even better than the original silly pic...I've been wrassling with a 1/48th version of the original idea...but the Rutanized version is SO much cleaner looking....twin tails to boot!!!!! MUCH cool!!!!!
