I had a problem with a resin Enterprise -C once.
I painted the thing and got a topcoat on (spraycan White), then there appeared patches where it looked like something was outgassing (never mind the model was yonks old...); but it all went away soon after, which is good, as it didn't look good against the paintjob...

This model was over 20 years old - so no outgassing. The resin probably wasn't fully cured (or some other resin chemistry issue) - there's no fix for that. Some of the old primer stuck fairly well, but then I could peel sheets of it with no problem. After a wash with denatured alcohol, I sprayed it with Stynylrez primer (which is designed for resin!) and after a day it was gummy and soft, so that was the final straw.

The Enterprise was probably about the same vintage - it wasn't a problem when the paint first went on, it only appeared after a while.
Then went away again... 

I really need to finish it, but the resin pylons supporting heavy! resin nacelles really should be replaced with a piece of 2mm styrene sheet, bent to shape.
Then a respray...

I've seen one photo where the "Invasion Stripes" were being applied with a broom. 

Mind you those squadrons that wern't required until D+1 tended to have much neater Invasion Stripes. The squadrons used on D-Day it'self of course had, had to have them applied virtually over night.

I've seen a close-up of a 'Checkertail Clan' P-40 tail and the squares are anything but even, or square...
