Quote from: frank2056 on February 03, 2026, 09:27:37 AMI use talcum powder instead of baking soda with the superglue. It's not an exothermic reaction like the baking soda and the resulting solid is about as soft as styrene.

I've used it for years, it's always worked well for me.
I did once try the Baking Soda version, but I used it as a bulking agent as well, and the whole thing turned brown and leached over time...  :banghead:  Maybe it would have been ok under a coat of paint, but maybe not...

Was it baking soda (Bicarbonate) or baking powder?  The latter has other chemicals in it and does go micey with age.  Ask me how I know...

Quote from: PR19_Kit on April 13, 2026, 12:06:14 PMThat's pretty well what I did with my airliners. There's a Ford colour that's a dead match for Boeing Grey, and Ford Starfire Silver is great for NMF panels etc etc.

Is there a Hycote equivalent or are they still labelled as such?

I use the Hicote generic Aluminium for NMF and aluminium dope schemes.

No, specifically soda - I was using it as an accelerator and bulking agent.
Nowadays I'll use plastic for preference, and talcum powder if I need something to use to make a super glue slurry, for when I want a filler in a hurry.

Yes, they still make them, but in their own slightly smaller cans, but with the proper names on them.

The problem is finding a Hycote dealer but their web site has a list IIRC. Luckily there's one about 8 miles from my new place.

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Don't trust the store locator.  It's largely bollards - I've found at least three stockists near me that are not on the list and one listed that didn't stock them at all.  Try any car supplies place on the off chance.  Little back street places.  Oh, and The Range does stock them, but supplies can be...erratic.
