Caved in to temptation.  Now the proud owner of a Lidl retro box art offering of the Airfix Aston-Martin DB5.  No Comets, otherwise I'd have got one of those too.  For whiffery, of course.

An interesting thought!    The Saint's  Volvo P 1800  was originally built on contract by Jensen, with bodyshells from Pressed Steel Fisher.

It would have to be painted white, although I don't remember the number plate other than the Corgi toy having SAINT 1.

Likewise, I went to have a "look" at the Lidl Airfix kits today, on my way to spend a scary amount of money on something else, so I just "had" to ease that pain by taking their last civvie Gazelle home with me.

Airfix 1/72nd Aerospatiale Gazelle in the Lidl "civvie" boxing.

Indeed it was, up in PSF's Linwood plant in Scotland.

I had to go up there once to stick strain gauges all over one of them, took for EVER to drive up there, no M6-M74 in those days. :(
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Snagged an old Airfix Ilyushin Il-28 off Evilbay a few days ago, and today it arrived. Pristine stuff, parts still in its plastic bag and decals behind protective paper. And it's the 1978 issue, so almost half a century old! I've been on the market for one of these, but they've been going for ridiculous amounts lately. This one, however, did not, coming my way for just under £6, corresponding.

The reason for my interest is this drawing, found on the webz back in August

While not aiming to build an exact replica of that design, the general idea of starting with the prop-driven SAAB 18 when designing a Swedish Canberra equivalent is too good to let go. And the Beagle's straight wings and centrifugal jet engines is a real good starting point.

Well - actual construction might have to wait for a bit longer, but it's nice that some project material is in place.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!
