I have those books.  That's quite a compliment.  When I write stuff like this I actually try to ape Iain M Banks.  He would write these hugely long run on sentences.  I used to do that at school when doing creative writing in English lessons and Mrs Jenkins always criticised it and marked me down.  Obviously he did it much betterer than me.
