I thought i'd do an in progress thread for this one as i'm enjoying creating it.

What if, in between the Hart and the Hurricane there was an open cockpit, fixed undercarriage, monoplane built originally to flight test the Merlin (and other developments like the four gun wing) but then put into limited service?
In reality this was done by fitting Merlins to Harts.
I was inspired by the No. 19 (F) Sqn markings that came with the Vintage Classic Bristol Bulldog ($10 each at Expo - I bought two for the transfers).  I thought they would look good on a Silver dope and NMF finish on the rag wing Hurricane i had in the stash.

First thing I did was convert the prop from three blades to two.  Then I built the cockpit (Yahu IP) cut down the rear fuselage and glued the halves together.
I filled the gap with plasticard (as they used to call it) and PPP and then attached the wings and tails.

After filling the UC wells with the kit doors (not too good a fit) and PPP I glued the radiator on top of them.
The spats are from a Special Hobby Northrop Delta.  I widened them by 1mm using plasticard (there's that word again) but even then the Delta wheels didn't fit.  I shall be using a pair from my "undercarriage" bag which probably came from the Aifix 1/76 Bofors gun carriage.

More PSR is needed, then paint.

LOVE the spats!

Brian da Basher would have been proud!  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

I did something similar a while back (incl. a new radial engine and a USAAC livery), too.

Nice looking, but why would a company that had already gone to all-metal semi-monococque construction go back to tube and fabric?
The YP-29 was single seat and not much larger than the P-26, there
wasn't room for a second crewman.

The Northrop trousers look great.
The aircraft is much more attractive than the only V-12 engined Gamma built. The one-off Curtiss Conqueror powered Gamma 2G.

Because this is WhiffWorld and logic or history doesn't have to be part of how Thomas, or any of us, think when we're building our models.

I've always wanted to take the trousers/spats off of one aircraft and put them on an early P-40. Because I'm crazy.
