Hmmm, wonder if I can find my Aldi Calliope tanks and do something with that...

DUKW T44 Rocket Launcher.

McColm

Two DUKWs parked back to back were used as platoons to bridge small rivers during WW2.

Quote from: Caveman on November 15, 2025, 07:52:03 AMI'm thinking a simple Lidl Airfix DUKW in one of the dazzle esk British north Africa schemes - because the thought of amphibians in the desert tickles me

Yup, or perhaps in a "Berlin Brigade" scheme.

You could always say the dazzle style scheme was brought in for use in the Netherlands in 1945, especially after the dyches were opened. That's my excuse for my Buffalo. Specialised amphibious armour and support.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Royal Mail DUKW for delivering to remote places in Scotland and around the Norfolk Broads.
Decals ordered on Ebay!

Andrew Gorman

I've mail ordered some things too and they are rolling in. Plan ahead.  I'm looking forward to this build.

Hoping to pick up the necessary kits at the London show, if not direct from Airfix

Dutch Amphibus  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amfibus  or possibly an Amazon Prime Stalwart, perhaps?

Cooer, I like the look of that. I'd love at trip on the RW one.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Most amphibious wheeled/tracked vehicles spend more time on land than they do in the water. The swimming ability is primarily used to get from ship-to-shore or to ford rivers, cross small bodies of water and negotiate marshy/swampy areas.
However, there is an example of
an amphibious vehicle that was used to travel oceans, modified Ford GPA amphibious Jeeps, a vehicle that was ironically nicknamed "seep". Ben Carlin's Half-Safe is the best known of these obsession and was used to circumnavigate the Earth. It became an all consuming obsession for Carlin.

There's quite a few photos available

Here's an idea - https://www.aviationmegastore.com/en/modelling/lvtp-5---early--late---santa-claus-special-milmod-military-models-mm072-118-188325.html
 ;D  ;D

I now want a Santa figure in my DUKW bringing presents to the kids! The driver up front in dark blue (adapted from the kit figure) and Santa sat in the back on a pile of parcels.
I think I'll be going to  the model railway shop soon to look for suitable figures and packages or mail sacks.

One from Luigi Colani- The Sea Ranger, based off of a Unimog.  The fighting chair is is high order silliness!

Here's chance to use up that tanker truck you've been saving for "something"...

I can visualise some reverse engineering on the Lockheed Sea Shadow, the 1/144 scale kit is becoming rare but they sometimes pop up occasionally.
