Screw propulsion. Pretty much the opposite of a car, great on water, marshes, soft mud and snow. Terrible on tarmac roads. Some very niche applications like Soyuz capsule recovery, rescue in remote areas areas, mud compaction. A screw propelled vehicle was proposed for Project Plough and led to the more conventional M29 Weasel.

No suspension at ALL!  :o

The ride on those has to be APPALLING!  :banghead:  :banghead:

The long drums may mitigate the ride a bit and the fact they're suited to soft going should help too - ground will just get churned up underneath you. Can't be comfy if you hit something hard though.

I'm very tempted to CAD up and print some screws for the Takom 1/35 M29 Weasel Arctic/Antarctic Expedition Vehicle. The tracks in this kit are very difficult to assemble properly, plus this would be a throwback to the original Geoffrey Pyke design.

Two months to go gentlemen, plenty of time yet.  ;D

Super DUKW.  Cool.

1 month to go.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.  Revelling in numptytism.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

A bit more than a month in Northern and Western climes, but not much!

Yikes, and I thought regular DUKW's were death traps!  Looks neat, but I shudder at riding in that!

I rode in a DUKW once, at Wisconsin Dells where they have a small fleet of them. They take you on a trail along some really rough  tracks, through gulches and then down into the Wisconsin River for a spell. They were pretty well put together and ran very well, but the freeboard was a tad minimal...............

Tick Tock, Tick Tock... I'm working on paint and selecting decals. Also applying infinitesimal amounts of putty with a toothpick and color sanding orange peel rattle can paint.

The problem with current DUKWs is spare parts. I think many have had their engines and such replaced with more modern stuff. I think there is a company making a similar modern vehicle.

Less than 2 weeks to go now, and this is going to sound pretty silly, but I'm (as an administrator for the GB) asking for an extension please..........  :-\

I'm meant to be moving house this Thursday, in 2 days time, but things look like they'll be falling apart and we may be living in a hotel for a while as a result. :( I'll have ZERO chance of modelling of course, thus the request.

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE Tom?

Well Kit, I just don't know.
You knew very well that the GB was running until the end of February and you chose to move during the GB anyway.
Seems to me this is a case of setting the wrong life priorities.
In Holland we have a saying that when you burn your bum, you have to sit on the blisters!

But OK, I had a extended discussion with myself and will graciously grant an extension in this case.
Is two weeks enough to get sorted in your new home?
