First thing is to make additional modifications. The point of the upgrade is to increase range, firepower and accuracy of the gun from a defensive position, so survivability is a priority. Import variants would not feature the upgraded DU armor, so ERA panels (swiped and modified from the M60 kit) were used instead, which is consistent with current Taiwanese CM11 models. The furret base armor won't fit as is, so I'll first remove the ERA blocks off the mounts:

Here is the turret base ERA mount, with the "prongs" exposed. The other two ERA blocks will be offset to make room for the coax gun.

I forgot to take a picture after I mounted the blocks, but here it is the tank, ready for primer. I still need to scratch up some side skirts, but that's for another day.

Looking good! That's got to be extra fiddly in 1/72nd scale.

Ahhhh the fiddly bits stage ;D
Like the mods so far in progress

Nothing I love more than painting the little, individual track shoes on each and every track.  :banghead:

Anyway, the very fiddly length-and-link tracks are now installed. I just need to wait for the glue to set, then get some super glue to fill in a few gaps in the track, then repaint to cover up the track patches. Still need to make the side skirts. It's starting to look like a tank!

Starting to look good as well Tom

DEEP joy doing all that track painting. It reminds me why I don't 'do armour', well, usually anyway. :(

Thats looking pretty damn impressive for being a tiny little tank ..or a TLT as we call in the trade  ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

T(h)anks for the encouragement guys. Before I paint the upper, I move towards the stage I've been putting off....the side skirts. This would involve making a template, cutting out the other side, adding the notches for the bins, determining how short the skirts should be, reshaping, then adding extra bits to make it more 3-dimensional. Oh and making sure it mounts securely to the side of the tank. And paint. Wow.

Said as "TiLT!", inferring an error in game play, as per pinball machines.  ;)

Looking good Tom, and the turret looks right on it
I remembered that I had done an upgrade M60 a few years ago, it is sat on the shelf gathering dust. I used a Merkava turret on mine. Mine is 1/72 scale also.

That's a VERY good question Womby. :(

Being totally honest, it hasn't moved on a jot since I took it home in its box a while back now. I did glimpse the box a couple of weeks ago and thought 'I really ought to get on with that' but that process has gone no further as yet.

However I'm headed back to my house for a couple of days this Sunday and intend to bring a lot of stuff back with me to load into a 100 sq ft storage cube I've rented near to the new house my lady love and I are buying, and I'll try and include the Chally in that load.
