I was just about to squash some used airgun pellets to use as ballast in my Gotha, and this happened to the pliers I have. This really shouldn't have happened. Obviously made of Chinesium.

Also known by its street name of Cheese metal.  Much loved by motorcycle manufacturers for making various fasteners.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

You are 1000% right there Fred. Especially brake disc studs.

At least they aren't like a Star Trek Oberth-class ship and made of 100% explodium

Too many sets of cheesle files, which are even blunted by plastic, have also passed through my hands.
Senior Management's garlic crusher also requires periodic reimagining with small widgets from the old electronics hardware toolbox.

But I have a useful cheese-metal socket set, bought for a song. The various handles have nothing to go wrong, while only two or three of the sockets have ever been called on with enough grunt to need replacing with real ones. Been a real bargain.
Cheers.

What made do the "WTF!" the most, that I was only squashing in soft and semi hollow airgun pellets. There must have been a flaw in the casting.

No.  Absolutely not. You must have abused them earlier by levering a nuclear submarine out of the Dogger bank or something. We refuse to recompense you.
Cheers.

Most likely too hard, not annealed correctly, thus too brittle, and probably overstressed when
the parts were pressed together.
One thing I long ago noticed with needle-nose pliers, especially the type with the wire cutter,
is that under certain conditions the long jaws will torque laterally, which a puts stress on the
parts for which they are not designed. It's usually when you're applying more force than usual.

Yep, the other thing you notice that with is cheap screwdrivers: try to put some serious torque through them and a corner of the blade just chips off.

Cheap tools are false economy.
I've got a 2" socket on my desk which split when a workmate leaned his weight on it while working on a dozer.  Nearly broke his arm when it gave.

SOME cheap tools are false economy. Chinese hammer? Fine: it's just a lump of metal on a wooden stick. Chinese sockets/spanner/screwdrivers/pliers? Nope.

The problem is telling what's what these days. A lot of traditional western brands are now just nothing but that: a "brand" applied to the same stuff from the same Chinese factory, just with different coloured plastic and labels. Yellow plastic? Ryobi. Red plastic? Milwaukee. Blue plastic? Bosch...

True. And over here Yellow also = Stanley and Red or Green = Ryobi.

But they still make sure the batteries have Brand-specific ways to attach, thus ensuring Brand Loyalty. :banghead:

That's one thing my dad taught me..always buy good quality tools ..course that's not always possible...coins for most of us being the main reason so overtime I've noticed something with the tools I've gotten for model building and my engineering side of things ..well two things really..heat and weight...ive noticed that high quality tools are cooler to the touch than cheap flashy looking ones ..also heavier...second hand tool shops are brilliant for picking up great quality tools I can tell ya 😀
Also if your going down that route I've found that ppl don't buy the crappy looking tools ,,,which alot of my pliers look like but there far from it ..ive been lucky finding these goodies so there we'll worth looking out for because prices fir alot of these small but high quality tools will make your butt pucker  :o
When it comes to my engineering tools I've got both ..cheap and nasty ones which I let ppl borrow and expensive ones that only I use  ;D
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
