Back in the day I had to survey the inside of a new condominium that was being extensively renovated.  The electricians had finished the conduit and pulled all the wires through then the drywall crews had put up all the drywall. Then the electrical inspector showed up. Out came the stop work order then they had to strip off the drywall so that the electrical could be inspected. I guess it was their first job in the city of Chicago. The inspectors can be very strict.

Quote from: PR19_Kit on June 14, 2026, 09:29:08 AMIt turned out that the big armoured power lead that went down the edge of the garden path to the shed was connected to the mains power line BEFORE the 'Company Fuses', which was very illegal of course! It all got re-wired legally and investigations showed that the previous owner of the house was an electrician working for the National Grid!  :o

A similar story I heard was of a house that kept getting disconnected for non-payment of their power bill - but it was always mysteriously re-connected, without having paid the bill...
It turned out the inhabitant was a sparkie, and was able to fiddle the works to reconnect them.

The electricity company made it known in the local pub that if it happened again, without the bill being settled, the cable between the house and power pole (yes, it was that long ago) would be physically removed.
"You can't do that!"
"Yes we can, the cable belongs to us, not the property."

The bill was paid and (most) people were happy.  ;D

Quote from: PR19_Kit on June 14, 2026, 09:29:08 AMThey were thinking about charging us an estimated amount for the 2-3 years worth of 'Shed Power' that we'd used, but we got my Uncle on the job, as he was a Senior Barrister, and they decided not to pursue the matter.  ;D

We've now got the new, larger loft hatch, and the much sturdier folding ladder in place, and I can at last start to use The Loft properly.  ;D

I've arranged a large pulley directly above the centre of the hatch, and that takes a rope loop which is hooked up to a large(-ish) crate so that I can haul things up there without actually having to carry them in, my arms. That's not a good idea at any time, but specially when you're 83!  :o

So this afternoon will be a bit busy, hauling loads of kits up there and trying to figure out a sensible way of stacking them. In the old Loft, the 1/72 scale stuff was arranged in piles by manufacturer (an Airfix stack, a Revell stack etc), the 1/144 airliner stuff by the RW manufacturer (a Boeing stack, an Airbus stack etc) and then I had all the vacform kits, by any manufacturer in one large box, and all the conversions in another. Plus there was a box just for Spitfire stuff, naturally.  ;D

Not sure if I'll go that route again, but any other ideas would be welcome.

I may be gone a little while......

My stash is organised almost exactly the same way as your's was/is Kit, other than a box of armour kits and figures. Seems the most logical
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

This seems to be a sensible system.

Sudden thought!  Has Kit yet re emerged from the loft; he did say he'd be gone some time?

2 minutes later...Panic over, Kit has posted today, so he must have emerged relatively unscathed.

And today I've bought a shelving stack to go up there. Needless to say, there are ZILLIONS of nuts and bolts holding it all together, a good thing I have a powered screw & nut driver!

Much progress was made y'day, until I just ran out of go. We OAPs can't keep going like you youngsters do, you know.

This 'Youngster' can't do half the stuff, for half as long, as he used to, either...  and you've got 20 years on me., Kit! :-\

It's either needing a nap, a pee or just out of puff, which requires a cuppa of (insert your favourite beverage here) while you get your breath back, which results in needing another pee. Days fly by the older you get.

I've been building some racking for the New Loft, all galvanised steel as it was actually cheaper than the wood version. The only problem was it came with 120 nuts and bolts!  :o

It was baking hot up there, but eventually I got it all assembled and the nuts and bolt torqued up, only to find that it's too tall to fit anywhere without touching the angled roof. The only place it will fit is in front of the two doors leading to the unfinished 'striage' area.

So I DIS-assembled each half and I'll shorten it so it fits up against the wall nicely, but that may wait till tomorrow as I'm watching the British GP on video just now.

Priorities...  ;D

At LAST I've got the racking up, but it'll be the only one that style I'll be using! Rubbish design and rubbish materials, but it's in place now, as is the temporary 'work bench', actually a wallpaper table, but I'm never doing any more of that.

This racking will only be for 'current projects' so the stuff on there now is just to show how it works.

And yes, that is a slot track in the corner, which will have its own site later in the full scheme of things. No, it's NOT Scalextric, it's Policar track, loads better than Scalex.

Absolutely, you need three kits to build a Mk III properly, and I've always wanted to do one.
