I did a little dry fitting of the frame inside both fuselage halves earlier this evening, and everything looked as if it fitted together well.

So, more cutting of brass to get rid of the excess.

The bits of resin are from the forward support of the main undercarriage bay. Talking of resin...

I glued the engine compressor and frame into place. I then tackled the rear end of the frame.

That's as far as I have gone tonight. The main undercarriage bay and its frame are glued together, but not to the metal frame.

I have to think about the engine exhaust. Do I go with the very nice Reskit F106 exhaust, which is about the correct diameter, or do I go with my scratch-built affair?

I'm thinking that I had better go with the Reskit item. I will look far better than what I can come up with.

I was thinking that Old Wombat and Spino were starting to get a bit brassed off   I know I was. The idea of the frame is to hold everything together. I know I have probably said that before, but to me, it was the way I saw the construction of some kind of support frame for all the internals, to help keep it square.

Epic pun there lol.  I can imagine you were, I myself was starting to get in a rut of thinking "oh, Gondor's posted another photo of brass bits"...

Oh No!, Another picture of brass bits!

I had to post it as I added a section to the back of the nose undercarriage bay so that if I fitted it into the fuselage, I could then correctly locate the rest of the frame to it.

I have also trimmed back the rear of the resin of the nose wheel bay and added a hool of plastic around the engine intake. I am seriously going to have to paint that engine front or I will end up glueing parts together and then not be able to get at it to paint.

I know it looks as if I have not done much, but in the background, lots of test fitting and adjustment of the intakes has been going on, and a lot of scratching my head. Thankfully, no splinters encountered

One always needs a lot of test fitting and contemplating.
As someone who used to (and often still does...) slap things together and then have to pull them apart again, I can attest to this.*

This is exactly the reason i'm chicken of vac form ..the first thing is a masters degree in structural engineering just the be able to put the fuse together  :o  :o
Al this a wonderful work mate ,,really is ,,what i'd do now is leave one side finished and the other side open to show off all your work

Specking of which ,,here was a guy on trademe selling a vac form He-111 in 1/fecking 32nd scale !!! ,,did i want it ??? ummm well still no answer to that from be as i was kinda thinking it'd be cool but the reason i haven't brought ,,he only wanted $25 NZ for it ...there's som damage ,,,the reason was pick up only and i'm not flying to damn near the bottom of the south lsland to get it .
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .

Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

As I said before, vacforms are not too bad. The biggest difficulty I find with them is getting rid of the lip around the edges of the parts. This build is taking so long because I am adding things like folded wings and he air intake trunking, and the engine front. Things that would not normally be included in a lot of usual model kits, let alone vacforms!

As for larger vacforms, I have been following a 1/32 build of a Shorts Stirling on Britmodeller. What the builder has done with it is amazing.

WHAT?  :o

That'll  be about 2 FEET tall!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

You could climb into it and fly it if it had engines.

Phew, that's HUGE!

Until I read that build I'd forgotten that the Stirling had bomb bays in the wings too!  :o

He started his new post with "Evening all " and then followed with this line "With the waters now settled on my 1/32nd Sunderland build"  :o  :o  :o
The guy is demented in the best possible way
That's an amazing build ,,,I know if i ever did have a play with a Vac kit it would have to be 48th or bigger ,,just to make life easier with it's size.

There was, it's out of production and copies are going for silly money, a 1/48 vacform Avro Vulcan. I believe several people have sneaked the box past the other half by saying the box contained a small table

I think there was a build on BM. The finished article was certainly imposing.

That 1/48 Vulcan kit was one of John Adam's masterpieces. He was Mr Aeroclub of course.

The BM build thread is here.
