Quote from: Gondor on June 28, 2025, 02:13:53 PMThose would be AN/ALE-40 Dispensers Kit, You should find some in the last boxing of the Old Airfix Buccaneer or in the latest boxing of the Buccaneer in 1/72. There may be other sources available as well.

Magic, thanks Alastair.

I have at least two of the old Buccs and one of the new ones, so I should be OK. Thanks for the offer anyway.

The offer was there as a backup plan Kit. I was expecting you to have some knocking around somewhere, probably in that cavernous loft of yours.  ;D

Where did you get those flare dischargers near the exhausts from? I was looking for some the other with no result.

I think the Airfix Jaguar.  Basically any Jag or Tonka will have them in

The front end, including the canopies, reminds me of a Super Etendard, which is highly appropriate, of course.

How did you do the clear canopies?

Basically just sanded the detail off, and polished them back with very fine wet n dry and micromesh, finishing with a coat of Gauzy or whatever you dip your canopies in

The Tornado F3 that I used for my F6 project didn't have them, and a pair would look great on that too. I'll dig around in The Loft.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Cheers - might have a go at that at some point.

The first cut is the deepest.  You start to sand and think "f**k what have I done".
Don't use too coarse a sanding medium to remove the detail, you don't want to have to remove big scratches.

Gotcha - I was wondering about exactly that actually: where's the sweet spot between not spending the rest of your life getting the detail off and not spending the rest of your life cleaning up the results?

I like double sided sanding sticks sold for fingernails.  I use the finer side of the two to remove the detail.
I then polish with a set of polishing cloths going up to 3000 grade.  Then metal polish to finish.
Do it right and you don't need the "Future" coating.
Packing the canopy with blutac helps prevent cracking it.
