The USAF has cancelled the order for the Boeing E-7 Wedgetail to replace the 16 E-3s in the AWACS role due to the Triumph administration and specifications opting for the Grumman
E-3D Hawkeye as used by the USNAVY. These will be using the in-flight refuelling probes along with the H/KC-130 tankers instead of the KC-135s due to their speed.
Other options were considered but rejected on costing and availability, this opens the door for whiffery and real world projects.

An idea of mine is to use the Grumman Greyhound with the Hawkeye rotodome. There are 1/48 model kits but not in 1/72. RVHP and Falcon Triple Conversions being the two that I know.

The Boeing EV-22 Osprey is another contender along with the various Erieye platforms. Another contender is the Lockheed Martin C-130 or P-3C ( used for illegal immigration and customs surveillance).
China and Russia have other options, drones and airships would make interesting whiffs.
