Got the interior of the VG 40 painted up in that lovely blue shade, and painted the seat and panel etc.

By the time you read this the two halves will be glued together and ready for the nose surgery, maybe later this evening.

It's a relatively simple job to mix the colours when you have the real RGB codes to start with, and that worked quite well.

Got the main airframe all together now, complete with Merlin patched onto the front. It'll need a little packing, PSRing and smoothing yet but it should work OK.

That is apart from the gaping hole just aft of the engine..............

.....but a mix of bits from both kits should solve that.

And, pray tell, how doth one accomplish such sorcery? The knowledge is entirely unfamiliar to me.

Just slap drops of the colours you guess at together, mix them up and see how they compare with your RGB sample.

Repeat as required.

Warning, this can take a LONG time and LOTS of paint................. :(

But what are these 'RGB Samples'? I presume that it stands for Red Green Blue, but how do you derive them from "WEMCC ACF12", which shows up nowhere in a Google search?

WEMCC ACF12 is the code the model paint manufacturer uses internally. If you Google 'Blue Fonce' you'll come up with lots of pages, some of which have the RGB values.

Just tried that, still can't make head nor tails of what any of it means, I guess I'm too thick.  :-\  Doesn't help that many of the pages have nothing to do with colour (one is for scented candles!), all are in French which Google seems to be terrible at translating (some it doesn't even bother translating), and, as I said, I'm too thick to understand it.

Oh dear, sorry it didn't work. I guess Google works in different ways depending which country we're in.

I think that it automatically corrected the English 'blue' to the French 'bleu,' but even when I corrected it back it still wasn't very comprehensible to my brain, such as it is.

Always helps to tighten your search as much as possible with Google, so try something like "bleu fonce, paint, rgb".

Engine fit looks a natural Kit

You've got me wondering what a DB 601 would look like on the front end ?

The VG 40 has had 2-3 PSR sessions now, and after one coat of primer I've done another session too. It's not looking too bad, that Merlin III really fits quite well, being just tad narrower than the HS 12Y engine is, but a couple of slices of 10 thou sorted that out.

As the Merlin can't have a 20 mm motour-cannon like the HS engine has, the big centrifugal blower at the back means there's nowhere for the cannon's breech to go, they doubled up on the wing mounted machine guns, so the VG 40 now has eight MGs, like the contemporary Hurricane and Spitfire. In my model's case they are provided by short lengths of 1 mm copper wire superglued in position.  ;)

[Later] Oh yes, I've also drawn up the decals for it, the 'non-standard decals'...............   ;)
