I hope they reinforced the airframe after chopping a big hole in it!

Good build, great idea
Where did you hear that?
Yes, they did with the Hurricane, how many were actually modified is the big question. It's very doubtful that the same was done with the Spitfire. Unlike the tube-frame and cloth covered rear fuselage of the Hurricane, the semi-monococque alloy fuselage of the Spitfire does not lend itself to having big holes chopped into it.

If you're referring to the Hurricane
it really wasn't a big deal because of
the structural design of the Hurricane.
It has an alloy tube frame that has
unstressed aluminum sheet skinning
forward and cloth covering on the rest
of the fuselage. Opening up the top
of the fuselage and adding the gun
position was easily accomplished and
would have little effect on structural
strength.
It was as straightforward as the Hurricane trainer conversion. You cannot view this attachment.

The Defiant, and Roc, turret had electrical servos that controlled the gun firing mechanism, they paused the guns when the turret traversed past the tail. The turret was based on an earlier French design that was licensed by Boulton-Paul.

They managed it with the Tr.8s and Tr.9s though.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yes, but as an engineered conversion
not an in the field "let's chop it open
and stick a gunner in".

Further progress - the shareholders in Milliput must be celebrating.
Any suspicions that the turret looks like a bit of old copper water pipe are quite correct - the diameter scales exactly as 1?72 of a Shackleton mid-upper.

I'm not saying that the Revell undercarriage is bad, but I never believed i would say the words " I'll use a scrapped PM one, its better"!. Ready for painting:

If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Getting a hardware bit that fits.. .is always just the ticket.

Nice work fairing in and the whole concept looks great

I was thinking of doing the same sort of turret idea on a Beaufighter..was going to be a Me110 but that's far to narrow.
Hmmmm Ju88 maybe 🤔

But if you made the engines the regular radials, it'd be a whif.
Very nice find matey  ;D
I've got the Tamiya kit in 48th and she's a radical all right ✅️  ;D
The turret will be something I'll have to go thru the stash to find and it's probably gonna be twin 50s
