I always use Tamiya's "Fine Surface Primer - Light Grey" under everything, but especially Tamiya paints, as I find they can react negatively to any contaminants (like skin oils, release agents, lubricating agents, etc.). Although a thorough wash can negate many of these, some are more persistent than others & the primer generally covers them & gives a great base for any paint you use.

Oh, & I generally use isopropyl alcohol (IPA) as a thinning agent. ;)

If ya want to get that paint completely gone Ken mate..spray on oven cleaner..the non foaming is best ..it rips thru fresh paint..leaves nothing behind.

Might be a good idea. At least there will be no oils or stuff on the plastic. I bought new Tamiya NATO green acrylic because that's what the store had. I wanted model master or true north but that color was not there. I just don't understand why it went so wacky. I've sprayed Tamiya paint before. I brushed painted parts of the trailer with the same paint as I sprayed. Stuff rolled off like I was spraying it onto butter. Even areas I had sanded looked like crap. Tick me off big time. Next try will be with the Tamiya lacquer thinner. A friend at my club insists it's the best way.

That's sounding more like a bad batch of paint bud more than anything else.
I've used Tamiya paint for decades and apart from it not sticking to some automotive primers I've never had that problem before and as for thinners ..I use good old water or Ammo acrylic thinners ..it all works fine 🙂
Now I know without a primer some acrylic paints act exactly like that ..water off a ducks back sort of thing.
The oven cleaner is great mate ..washes off in water and the stronger the better ..just use it in a ventilated area ..I use a brand called Easy Off heavy duty oven cleaner..does the job ..but also wear gloves as some of this stuff can mess with ya skin .

The stuff with sodium hydroxide is the best. Good old lye. It's the one with the yellow cap.

Nope, the IPA's I drink here in the UK tend to be hand pump, so you don't get bubbles, just a small "head" which isn't long lasting. We've tended to go very much back down the "traditional" ale path here in the UK over the last few years and our bitter's all the better for it

Progress on the trailer. Decals are on and the axle and wheels are back where they belong.

Taillights, electrical cable, a couple of jerry cans and some air lines and she be done!
