I'm obviously biased so i personally think it's one of the best looking compared to most fighter designs of the period, even more so with the Griffon/Contra prop combo.
There's the MB5 and there's also the CAC CA-15 Kangaroo, which are similar in looks but IMO, there's something about the MB5's rear end and the CA-15's canopy shape and size that look a bit off... The P-51H somehow looks like a more refined and balanced design... In the end, it's in the eye of the beholder, correct?  :thumbsup:
I'll be building at least a couple more of these, one in a shiny metal finish for sure. I have another 2 of these RS 1/72 kits and one of the Modelsvit 1/48 kits in the stash and many more of the earlier variants so, lots of options for when the time comes.
And i already have one of the RS kits beside me for something i've been thinking of since i began this build so, it probably won't be too long before i begin work... :mellow:

I've always wanted to do one of the 'half way houses' to the P-51H, either the F or the G. That flat opening canopy on them both seems to look SO much better than the slanted one of the D or H.

One day I'll get round to it...................
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Very nice Ruis, it's making me think of doing a post war RAF version, to go with my FAA versions. I just need to acquire a suitable contra prop, and a mustang kit  ;D

I believe the J also had the flat opening canopy. It was also bigger in size, compared to the D/H canopy types so a new canopy will be needed. Not sure where one could source the correctly shaped canopy without resorting to vacforming one but i know i won't have this issue cause i'm not interested in building the interim variants and i actually prefer the slanted D/H canopies.  ;)

Funny that you mention the FAA cause i have plans for a navalized variant also with the Griffon/contra prop combo and 4x20mm cannons like this one for either post-war or for the Invasion of Japan in 1946 for the coming Operation Downfall GB... :mellow:
