Years ago we had some GB's overlap and it took away from both of them.
Really? How did it "take away" from them? Any evidence rather than personal opinion?

I don't join all the GBs and pretty certain I wouldn't join two at a time so no problem with me. Unless the subjects somehow overlapped.

As the One Week is only limited in time, not subject, there's only the issue of "Can you finish two builds in one week?", should you accept that challenge.

As to overlapping with the One Week
GB, I personally don't see an issue
as it's up to each person as to which
GBs they enter.
;)

Well being selfish it does mean I have two GB's to keep an eye on in the background plus sort some of the necessary admin for them whilst wanting to take part in the One Week GB. Yes it can be done, probably.

My opinion, but I don't believe it was just me.  There tends to be a flurry of excitement at the start of a GB, with folks coming up with ideas, banter, etc, then it tapers off.  When we had overlap (8-10 years ago?) it would get confusing with one GB winding down, one starting up, then voting getting thrown in during the overlap.  I think it mostly hurt the closing GB as the excitement waned, folks abandoned builds instead of trying to get their build done, and the voting and recognition was lost in the new one starting up.  Folks moved on the next one without real closure of the previous GB.  Also harder on our beloved instigators, organizers and moderators.

I have long opined that the formula of three 90 day GB's, plus the one-week build, and zero overlap among the four builds is the perfect sweet spot for many of us.   If you can't make one GB, wait until the next.  I have skipped or abandoned several due to busy life, lack of interest, etc.

I fully understand opinions may differ and that is OK.

Which is precisely why I proposed the Finish It GB: to give those builds that got abandoned because of the GB schedule a second chance.

Actually, thinking about it, overlapping with the One Week GB will lead to voting overlap, which may lead to voting fatigue & limited or poor voting choices.  :-\

As 1WGB mod can I suggest this GB's Mods PM me please to discuss how/whether this needs to be/can be sorted.  We can then go to Chris with an agreed plan.  Sounds OK?

I'm with Dave.  No overlaps.  Especially with the 1WGB.

Isn't that to be expected though? It just reflects modelling in general.  You become interested in a project, then something else gets your attention, other projects, real life. No conspiracy.

It certainly was the case with last year's 'experimental' Shelf Queen GB that ran in the background of the regular GB programme.

As the SQGB's mod I'd say the big lesson learnt was that 12 months was too long.  A 3-month format would seem more appropriate but only as a proposed/voted GB option, not as an annual event as per the one-weeker.

Anyway, my thoughts.  If a wider debate is wanted/needed then a new thread should be started rather than hijack this one.
