If we're going down that road, two Centauras's ? Or would that be Centauri ?

I can't help feeling any radial would look very odd on a Whirlwind, but I suppose they had them on the Tigercat.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

IIRC, our esteemed Dizzy once put a couple of Mitsubishi Dinah engines on a Whirlwind, and tasked it for Ground Attack... looks good, too.

Not for me, as I don't have the interest to do anything else with one (or another kit) but never say never...
Too many other projects to get done first.

Nausicaa on Kai **Sci-Fi**

From the movie 'Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind', from Studio Ghibli.

Back a few years ago, there was a build article on the Science Fiction Modeller website, where someone made a series of tweaks to the original moulding of this.
I liked the look of it, and it was something different, so I printed out the article and went looking for the kit.
It was (just) out of production, so the article and idea got shelved.

Then when I found out Bandai were rereleasing the kit, I ordered one. It arrived, and I found they had made some tweaking of their own, so that most of the improvements made in the original article were already done.

So I watched the movie for reference and set to work.

The kit is very nice, and most of the parts are grouped according to their finished colour, on multi-colour part trees.
This also means you can paint them before assembly, to minimize masking.

In the end, the only addition I made was a sling for the rifle, though I did briefly toy with the idea of replacing all the weapons with something a little more 'Sci-Fi'.
But eventually I decided to make the kit as is; it was a lot easier.

Mostly GW paints, as those were what I had at the time that seemed most suitable and quick drying.
The kit comes with transfers for the eyes, which is a nice touch and makes things easier; they also provide 3 sets, which is good, as I messed up the first one.

I painted the eyepieces of the masks gloss black and put gloss varnish over, then tried to depict light reflecting off them with streaks of white... I'm not sure how convincing it looks; the idea got shot down at the club meeting I showed it at.

The base had flattened lead nail heads glued in and it was attached to a larger piece of plastic, to give the model more stability and a weightier base to keep it from tipping. I painted the edge black and sanded it a bit for a worn effect, and stuck thick felt feet underneath.

And a couple more, that wouldn't fit into the previous post.

1/48 Piper Super Cub **real world**

The Academy kit; another addition to the Brother-in-Law's Air Fleet.

Mainly straight from the box, though I replaced the wing spars with wire for strength and glued the angle braces to them; also the wheel struts and axles, the wire is the leading edge of the strut.

I also added the fin to tailplane braces from rod. Though I see one has come off in one of their shifts...

Painted with Humbrol Trainer Yellow and various other colours for the rest.

Come out well Rick, especially the colour scheme   I always find yellow to be one of the most difficult colours to apply, even with the obligatory pale pink undercoat.

Thanks.

Chris, as I recall I may have used a spraycan white but then the Humbrol went straight over the top.
Probably needed a couple of coats, but that's it - I hadn't heard of the pink undercoat trick back then.
And the Humbrol wasn't thinned much (if at all) either, so that probably helped.
