Just got an email reply from 3D-Wild about the rigging for the Tilly crane. Apparently, when they shipped the crane to me, there was supposed to be some very thin wire in the box. The crane is packed inside a clear plastic box which is then packed inside of another cardboard shipping box. Which box the wire was in, I don't know because I never saw anything when I opened both boxes. They said they could send me a replacement. But the Tilly vehicle is already painted and done. And if the rigging is as fine, thin, and delicate as I believe it to be, then I'd have a really difficult time trying to add it with the limited eyesight I have. Better to just cut my losses and not add the rigging.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

FINISHED! FINISHED! FINISHED!    :drink:

The carrier, informational plaques, row of individual display aircraft, and a US flag patch.........have now been attached to the display base and the cover has been put on.
I'm praying and hoping that nothing comes loose.........especially the carrier...........if I ever have to transport this model to a future contest. It does not take very much for the clear acrylic display case to lift off the black display base if the whole display were bumped or something else. There are small tabs at the bottom of the clear acrylic display case that fit into notches in the black acrylic base. But the tabs, and the notches, aren't very deep or wide or whatever you want to call it. So when transporting this whole display, I may have to find and use some sort of strapping to put around the display case to prevent the clear case from coming off the black base. I just need to find and use something that won't scratch the clear acrylic.

And has anybody ever had trouble keeping display cases clean? You wipe and wipe and wipe, but somehow, you still get tiny dust particles or whatever no matter how hard you try. And you never know if it's on the inside or the outside.  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Now, let's play Where's Waldo? Except, we're not trying to find Waldo. I added another aircraft to the carrier, but it's not one of the types shown in the row at the bottom of the display. Can anybody guees the type I added and the location of it?

The pic's are too small for me to really have any idea, & I can't get up-close & personal enough to see in any great detail but I couldn't see anything obvious, so I'll hazard a guess at a EA-18G Growler.

Later: Nope, I can see a Growler on the base - I've got no idea.

LOL!  ;D  Well, I don't know about this being "the best build thread in the history of the joint".
I'm sure it probably comes close.
All I have to figure out now for this beast is how I'm going to transport it to future contests. I sure hope it fits in the back bed of my model friend's truck.
If this fails to go to any contests in the future for whatever reason, then the only way anybody is going to see it is here on this website forum or in some Facebook modeling groups............which I haven't yet posted the carrier to.

That looks very good. Lots and lots of work in that for sure.

As probably a last post to this model thread, I often get asked from time to time why I painted the lower hull blue when ship lower hulls are supposed to be red.

My answer: Why not? I like it.

Red is just too normal. In the first three pics below, the US Navy experimented with a new antifouling blue paint in the early 2000's on the TICONDEROGA class cruiser USS Port Royal. But sadly, this was only for experimental evaluation purposes. To the best of my knowledge, the US Navy never did apply the blue paint to any other vessels.
The last three pics below are Canadian warships that have had their lower hulls painted blue. How long the Canadians have been doing this to their warships, I do not know. But I do like the color.
So if anybody ever thinks a carrier (or other ship type) can't or shouldn't have a blue lower hull and that it would look really weird, think again. Blue is starting to catch on. ;)

I just now thought of something.
It's probably really good that I did finish this carrier this year...........and right before October too.
October 13, 2025 is the United States US Navy's 250th birthday.
So I got this carrier done just in time.
And I think the name fits well too for the carrier.

Sometimes, I just love messing with people's minds.
I was finally able to take my carrier (Not easy as this thing is very big to transport) to the Mad City Modelers Contest in Madison, WI yesterday.
From what I saw and heard, it was very well liked.
But then...........
From time to time, I would hear comments like:
"Is this being built for real?"
"Is this actually in service right now?"
"I don't remember the Navy having this ship?"
............and so on and so on.
I could have corrected some people. But sometimes it's just funner to let them believe what they want to believe.  ;D   ;D
Anyway, I did get a 3rd Place award for the carrier. Pics are below.
