Worked my way through them all now. Serious whiff porn, indeed.

The trousered and fixed undercarriage taildragger with the radial engine and weird high-riding ailerons (Book 2) and the Israeli forward-swept wing job (Book 4) both look hauntingly familiar, but I can't find them in my notes.
