It kinda feels like 90% to go... there must be a model building theory of relativity.... where time slows down the closer you get to the end. :)

Speaking of which, this one is getting close to done now.  A little touch up of red paint, some rigging, a coat of future and some decals.

Thanks!

Beautiful!
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Those wing radiators look magnificent, what colour did you use please?

Good old gold Tamiya Acrylic X-12.  For the red I decanted the Tamiya Italian Red TS-8 spray can.  I touched up the paint a bit this morning before rushing off to work, but I'm kind of regretting it.  I must have rubbed off a bit of gold paint with an errant finger from the left wing (the wider gold band - it's slightly visible in the pictures) and then touched it to the fuselage back near the tail (also slightly visible).  So with a quick bit of masking, I corrected the gold (which turned out fine although the mark is still slightly visible because of the two different layers of paint now), but I'm wishing I'd left the red well enough alone.  I'm not sure why, but the parts I touched up area somehow both a bit darker and have a "shiny oily" quality to them now.  It reflects the light and brings more attention than it did before.  I also was quite as careful as I thought, so now I have a few more touch-ups with white paint on the floats to do as well. :banghead: :banghead:

Thanks!

Which is why I find painting the most nerve-wracking part of the whole process! :-\

Well, she's done. Ever had a model that had a cascade of errors?

I finally got the rigging on and it was relatively easily, but not before splattering a few drops of CA glue against the right side of the fuselage. So I had to do a few touch ups again... which resulted in a bit of the masked gold parts to be a little less crisp. Oh well. But then the coup de grace was that I just HAD to add some light panel washing, didn't i?! Not only did it not work well, it wouldn't wash off and then, it started to take the red paint with it.

So, back to the drawing board and ANOTHER coat of red paint on the left wing tip... which didn't really work because the dark shadows still show through. And to make matters worse, an errant bit of masking tape ripped the round decal off the side!

Luckily with a bit of warm water and some persuasion I was able to get the backwards decal bit off the masking tape, piece it together carefully and get it back in position... with only a few cracks. <sigh>

I'm almost scared to give it another dose of Future to seal on the decals. What ELSE could happen?!

Thanks!

Greg
