Build as a Space Battleship Iowa or build as a non-SBY universe battleship?

Yes, Build it as if in the Space Battleship Yamato universe.

No, don't build it as if in the SBY universe. Just build a regular space battleship type ship.
3 (60%)
Other option. Please describe in reply post.

Nope. I have no interest in building anything related to the series The Man In The High Castle. Not the Yamato or anything else.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

The missile launchers in that picture make it look like the Soviets got a hold of it. Weird.

I'm tending towards the SBY universe, if only so it fits in with an existing universe and an already established backstory .
That said, I still think you can go a different route WRT the design aesthetics. It's from another Nation, after all.

In the end though, it's your model and your choice.

If you can't source large jet engines, then the SBY universe isn't really an option because the big engine at the rear is part of the aesthetic of the series.

Well, I can, maybe?  Pics below.
First, I'm not too keen on keeping the "flat sides and underside" of the Iowa battleship hull. I know it's iconic to that class of ship, but a lot of sci-fi ships tend to have more curved hull areas. I was thinking of using the top half of a 1/350 scale Typhoon class ballistic missile sub on the bottom hull of the Iowa. The Typhoon has all these great missile hatches that can be kept and I could use them as downward firing orbital bombardment launchers. I could also keep the sail tower on the Typhhon hull piece and maybe attach the SBY third bridge part to that sail tower. Another nice thing about the Typhoon hull is that if you look closely, you can see the torpedo tube launcher holes in the front bow. I'd keep those as is for firing forward launched missiles. As for the flat ledges on either side of the sail tower, I could possibly put a few AA turrets there.

As for the main engines, the only thing I could potentially use is the engine parts/assembly from a 1/32 scale A-10 Warthog aircraft model. It's the only thing that might work as I have no other spare model parts that would look decent for engines.
How many parts I use from a second SBY kit on the Iowa hull is unknown as the two kits are vastly different in scale. Some parts from the SBY kit may look good while others may be too small and won't look good. The Iowa is 1/350 scale. The SBY is 1/500 scale. Quite a difference.

Looks like quite a project either way. Carry on!

I like these ideas - carry on, as has been said!

What about some more turrets on the slab sides of the ship? I.e. not just on the 'top' and 'bottom'; which, let's face it, are mostly arbitrary in space.

I still think you could investigate a Nylex-style hose nozzle for a Big-A55 engine nozzle; but if you're wanting a twin-engine design, the A-10 units would work, too.
Either way, Your Model.

The one main thing I don't like about using the Typhoon sub hull is that there are recessed panel lines to represent the hundreds of anechoic sound absorbing tiles all over the hull. It really looks weird seeing this "pattern/design" on one part of the hull whereas the rest of the Iowa ship hull is flat and smooth.

So PSR them all in......................
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

From the SF3D world, maybe a Yakult bottle or two for engines?

Option # 2 -
Ditch the Typhoon hull part and use instead the lower red hull structure from the SBY kit to make the lower Iowa hull a bit more "curvy".
I think I like this a bit more. And "if" I wanted to, I could cut off the "bow tip" of the red hull (far left end) and put in some sort of mega cannon or something.
