For the AST.364 strategic transport requirement, Short proposed a jet-powered derivative of its Belfast freighter. This was to use the Lockheed C-141 Starlifter wing and tailplanes married to the Belfast fuselage and Conway engines.

This is one of those projects that have been on my mind on and off for years. With the release of the Roden C-141 a less expensive donor than the Anigrand kit became available, so I'm going to combine that with the Welsh Models Belfast:

Nice one Harro excellent project to do

I've heard this described as the "Georgia Bel(le)"

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you....."

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I've got a 3-View of this somewhere on the computer ----  but do you think I can find it now  :banghead:

There's some data on the project in Derek Wood's Project Cancelled, incl. a 3-view. Probably also in Chris Gibson's upcoming book  ;D

3-view can also be found on the Secret Projects site

Yes, Project Cancelled, that's where I've seen it.  Thanks for the reminder Harro

Wow, great project!  Will you be moving the wing center section forward?

I think so, I'll have to scale the 3-view to get a better idea of the changes needed.

Great idea. Love the Belfast and never see enough of them so this will be one to watch !

Of course you know what's going to happen. A few weeks after you finish this build Roden, Micro-Mir or someone else will produce a 1/144 injection Belfast to their catalogue.

Looking forward to the result of the build regardless

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

I hope so ! I'd love to see that.

With the help of a 3-view drawing from Chris Gibson, I've made some progress on this recently.

The Belfast is a bit wider than the C-141, so it needed a lot of filling. Some sprue to help reduce the volume:

I've since plastered the rear fuselage in filler- with enough weight that it'll be a tailsitter unless I drop my entire supply of lead weight in the fuselage, so I'm looking at installing support posts at the base of the ramp.

As with the Vickers project, I want to make the wings removable to make transport easier:

This is going to be a great project.
