Thanks folks.

Tophe - the "spinning" prop is a disc of clear plastic with permanent marker scribble representing blades.  I used to draw spinning prop blades like that when I was a kid.  I saw a tutorial somewhere about how to make these and it said airbrush the blades but I thought this way might be better.  It certainly looks more cartoonish - which I like.

Using the undercarriage fairings (trousers?) as dive brakes seemed an obvious thing to do.  However, once i'd modelled them open I couldn't think of a reason why they'd be like that on the ground and so had to put it on the stand.  Which is an old Matchbox base fitted with a straightened out jumbo paperclip and filled with epoxy & fishing weights to add extra stability.

I think a lot of the Discworld is in Somerset.  Whilst at the Glastonbury Festival I have certainly seen some strange sights that can surely only be due to the presence of a strong magical field.  Ahem.  ;D

Yup a lot of the names are from around that part of the world. I think because of its links to mystical folklore etc. They used to have a couple of "Discworld" inspired festivals down there every year I know that. Never went as they were a little "alternative" for me. Some of the goings on at the actual Discworld convention could have you scratching your head a bit as it was

Absolutely brilliantly executed, bravo! Apart from Lizzie fuse I had no idea what I was looking at! Bravo, bravo!

Thanks a lot for this explanation, and "cartoonish": I love!
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]

No probs Tophe.  I strive for cartoonish.  This build has (inadvertently) an air of caricature about it.  It pleases me when this happens but I don't seem to be able to achieve it every time.

Oh yes 👍 I'd forgotten this one.

Fred was there any particular reason why you went for a P-39 wing?  As simple as having a spare wing?

Got me thinking about (mentally adding another project to the list) doing similar but retaining the Lysander engine (tbd - depends on sourcing a cheap kit) and adding Hurricane I wings.  And retaining the retractable u/c.

Sort of Westland's slightly lower tech stab at something nearly but not quite a Hawker Henley.  I'm sure there's an Air Ministry spec out there waiting to be matched up to the idea.

Nice one Fred!

I've long had an idea for a "fast Lysander" using the engine and inboard wing (with retractable undercarriage) from a Tomahawk. Good reason for doing it? None at all, but in my mind's eye it looks cool.

That's very generous of you Chris.  We must discuss the Lysander/folding stuff exchange rate at the South Downs show.

Yes.  That simple i'm afraid.  I wanted some period wings and they were in the parts box.  No special agenda.

Buy me a cup of tea. She won't get built so I'd rather she went somewhere where she might  ;)

Thanks Chris (I think a slice of cake is also due!).  My cunning plan is coming together - the 1/72 Airfix Lizzie's clear parts ar perfectly configured for what I have in mind.
