Actually research on the feathered dinosaur fossils in China has recovered pigment remainders so
some very good informed supposition as to colours has been possible.

Also it now seems likely that the therapod dinosaurs were, in general, feathered.  ;D

Won on ebay:

Job lot of 8 Spitfire kits.  Admittedly, two are Matchbox and thus will be reduced to produce (although the fuselages *might* be salvageable with a new wing), one is Academy (ditto) and another the old Hasegawa mk Ia - but I know what to do with that one.

Czechmaster Seafire FR47 - this is the 1996 tooling, one that I always look out for.  Well happy with this one.

The biggest questions remaining are about skin textures & colours, which it's highly unlikely we'll ever have much knowledge of.

Yes very much so which is why I can get a tad annoyed when people start describing the colours of these beasts ?

Thanks for the info on the other stuff  Archaeology I can get my brain around, paleontology ? No way  ;D It does seem to fascinate children of whatever generation however. My smaller ones (great nephews/nieces) love Crystal Palace Park when they are down

They're even making in-roads on those questions.  Skin textures only reveal themselves with impressions, but more are being found (even a large T-Rex relative, Yutyrannus has been found to have a kind of feather covering, although it'd look more like fur).  They've discovered the colours of few feathered dinosaurs, they can work it out from the shapes of the melanosomes (cells that determine colour), they seem to have been as brightly coloured as birds in the few specimens that have been examined.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

The thread drift  virus is alive and well!!! From styrene models to sauropod melanosomes in a few key strokes.   This is one of the reasons this site is so  fascinating.

Yeah, but it would drift onto chatting about plastic model aircraft, or something equally silly.  :banghead:
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

From Hannants :-

Zvezda 1/72nd Kamov Ka-27 Helix A
Begremot 1/72 Helix Decal set

Wow the decals covers 62 different machines Ka-27's Russian & Export Ka-29, Ka-32 and Ka-31's

Think I might get another Helix A and now looking for the Helix D SAR version too as well as the AEW Ka-31 and I'll have to get the Ka-29 of course !  :banghead:

The BEgemot decal sets are really good value for money - just beware: the carrier films tend to be (very) thin, so application can be tricky.

Revell 1/72 A-109 K2 Rega, to be done as one of the RNZAF's shiny new A109LUH fleet (with the addition of some resin bits by a mate and a set of OldModels Decals decals). Very pretty machines.

not the best photo, but it's mine so there's no copyright issues!
With warm regards from Whanganui, New Zealand
