Quote from: zenrat on September 16, 2025, 06:08:22 AMI bought the kits (and then some) but got distracted and never built them.

I know the feeling, I have BOXES of 1/24-35 car kits in The Loft and I've not even looked at them for years. :(

Ditto; not cars, but certainly the same for other sorts of stuff.  :banghead:

Chevelle is finished - Old School Street Machine.  More pics soon.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Looks so much like a 1.5 times full size FD Victor Estate!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Yeah, GM really pushed  the "coke bottle" styling globally.
This is a Holden Kingswood Wagon.

After walking Princess Charlie The Wonder Dog, cooking breakfast, and helping/offering suggestions to Mrs z as she did some light garden construction I sat down at my bench and reached for the Chevelle box so as to remove all the remaining parts from it and put them away...

...which turned into an all afternoon session sorting and rearranging my model car parts boxes.

Not creative, but still satisfying.  I'm running out of space.  I'll need some more boxes soon.

It's amazing how satisfying "sorting" the stash out can actually be at times  ;)

True that.
I found stuff I forgot I had and threw away stuff I decided i'll never use.
And my boxes of "interesting plastic shapes I might use for scratch building" now number four.

Having finished both the VW Van and Chevelle wagon i've pulled a new 1/25 car out of the stash.  It'll be another of my growing line of Gotham City Police Department vehicles.

Fred, if you can track down a source, at one time the offices and govt departments were using wooden file boxes - the size of an A4/foolscap sheet and a bit more, and about 3" deep.
They have a spring clip rivetted to one end, but that's easy to drill out. Likewise the finger hole in the spine can be duct-taped over.

If you know of any places sending stuff to archives, or you have a contact at an archiving firm, it could be worth letting them know you'd like some, the next time they do a reboxing project (trust me, those cartons are deteriorating/getting abused all the time). You'll probably be offered more than you'll need!

Hmmm, good thinking.  Thanks Rick.
I am using clear plastic storage boxes with internal dividers.  These do have the advantage that I can see what has dropped to the bottom.

I do have one box file like you describe.  It contains all the instruction manuals for my power tools.  Which being a bloke I never ever look at...

When I retired we were gradually doing away with paper files and a lot of those boxes came into retirement with me

We recently did a reboxing project and a lot of them came home with me, too...  ;)
Better than them getting binned...  :banghead:

Today I separated the glass, metal, and plastic of 20 years of empty model paint bottles and threw it all into the recycling.
No idea why I had been keeping them.  I had just been chucking them into a bucket.

Then I flew the Su 34 around the shed on the end of a stick and primed it.

It's just what we tend to do. I have a zillion empty spray paint cans filling a HUGE box in The Loft. Why? I've no idea.................  :banghead:

paint bottles that are clean and still seal, you keep those to have that batch of super paint you mixed in, in case you ever need to touch up the model...
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.
wow, its like freefalling into the Geofront

Yup. Then you find out you don't have enough, and can't remember the proportions used originally, so you mix a new batch.
You make too much, and keep the excess in another container, in case the model needs touching up in future...  ;)
