Got hands on (another) Matchbox Tempest, and a Hasegawa T4 trainer - both pretty cheap.

A Model 1/72nd Piaggio P180 Avanti.
Showed my other half some photos of it after seeing (and being impressed by) sprue shots. Going by her facial reaction I think if I bought one I'd be sleeping in the garage as well as building out there!

Hm, I've always thought the Avanti to be one of the smarter looking aircraft in the air, but I suppose there's no accounting for taste, especially in the female mind.

Agree with you there Kit, got to stick my head in the door of this one a few years ago.

BTW, I asked CanMilAir if he could do me some decals of it, so guess what

That must have been a bitch doing the decals for that mega-curvy shape!  :o

Looks very good nonetheless.

Stopped in F&S Models in Droylesden this morning on my way to Ikea, mostly for a can of airbrush cleaner, but succumbed to the temptation of an AZ 1/72nd scale Vought F6U-1 Pirate in the whif boxing with Salvadorean, JASDF and Raspberry Ripple schemes.

It's a very basic limited-run style kit! NO location pegs of tabs for anything, including the tailplanes & fin! The cockpit tub and ejector seat a one-piece of resin, although they are pretty nice looking, with seat straps and good side panel detail, and there's a 3-piece plastic/foil/etch control panel.

There's an interesting "quirk" with the Boscombe Down colour scheme, which has a serial of "X2496". That doesn't look like a British military serial. The obvious assumption is that it's supposed to be XZ496, but that was a Sea Harrier, which would be way too late for the 1951 date given....

Not sure what to do with it. Some thoughts are:

1. Build it OOB: not often that you have the luxury of a whif-in-the-box...

2. Take advantage of it's crude nature to change it. In particular, I've been reading about the Metrovick F.5 engine which had twin aft-mounted unducted fans. It would be doable to add such fans to the Pirate (they're only 5ft diameter)and give it twin end-plate fins plus a ventral fin.

3. Make it a "real" pirate plane in some way....

Neo: How can that be?
MtY: I don't know man, I didn't do it.

Hi Weaver,

this is a good site if you are looking for a suitable British serial no.

X2496 would have been possible, but it was part of a very large 'black out block'. They used X1085 for an impressed Vega Gull, presumably in early WWII days or just before, and the next was X2865, used on an impressed Fox Moth.

A tad early for jet propulsion, but this IS WhiffWorld after all.  ;D

From Freightdog a pair of the Hurricane Mk I 20mm cannon pod sets (which come with some nice resin wheels with correct hubs). I know what I'm doing with one set but I've still to decide with the other.
Decals my @r$e!
