Right we are obviously helping in spreading FAKE NEWS so can you read Nick's piece about the error and cease from commenting on fake news. as though it's true Otherwise I will need to go in and  delete the relevant posts.

I don't want to set up a separate thread for what is Iffy News Nick.

I bet the initial headlines were much bigger and easier to find than the retractions.

Happy birthday Nick, have a great day

People have very kindly been telling me to take time for myself with all the recent events. It is very good advice and I agree with it.
Wasn't able to get away to my usual Lake District break this year and that was very annoying.

Next week we will be at Telford which is always a good distraction. But I still have 4 days holiday to use up this year.

So I have arranged a long weekend in Lisbon in early December. Fly out Sunday, back on Wednesday.

Plenty of museums and bars and things to do in Lisbon. I am looking at how to get to the Air Force museum in Sintra - seems to be a train and bus journey which is good as I think you see the reality of a country when you get out of the big cities.

Any suggestions for absolute MUST-SEES in Lisbon? Good restaurants or bars?

Lisbon is great!

Take a ride on the number 28 tram -it's a must but gets very busy so jumping on one early along the route is strongly recommended.  There's a piazza near Rossio station that used to have a stop there, worked well for us when we were there.  I'm sure a quick google will throw up a route map.

Train to Sintra is easy, IIRC services run from Rossio station.  Don't know about the bus to the museum, though.

Lisbon is a great place Nick, but remember they  had that fatal funicular tram crash back in September and that may still be affecting various things.

Now that Telford is over I can move on to the next set of events.

Mums birthday in 3 weeks time. This is all planned as much as me and my sisters can do.

The weekend after that is when things get tricky....

Friday 5th December - Office Christmas Party. This is at a country club near the office and part funded by the firm. It was good last time.

Saturday 6th December - London Model Show. Combined with lunch at a local pub with Chris and Dave. Need to take it easy because....

Sunday 7th December - Lisbon! First overseas holiday in 6 years. Nearly 4 days in Portugal  ;D

I'm flying from Stansted at 6:15am. Need to be in the terminal for 4:15am. Bus from car park to terminal takes 20 mins.
So I need to leave my house no later than 3:30am which means setting a 3am alarm  :o

I've just found the email confirming the car park booking - deleted it by mistake  :banghead:
Have printed all the paperwork out and stored it in my travel folder with my passport and Euro wallet.

I've booked a decent hotel in the city centre near the historic no.28 tram route. I can get there from the airport via the Lisbon Metro in 45 minutes.
I plan to visit Sintra and the Portuguese Air Museum - (Closed on Mondays!). Train there from Rossia station which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

Just need to plan what I want to see in Lisbon.
Navy Museum looks good. Military museum too.
Royal Palaces
National Museum of Ancient Art
Earthquake Museum and Archeology Museum.
Liberation and Resistance museum.
Coach Museum looked good on TV. Museum of Art and Tech is nearby. Belem Tower.

Near to the Belem Tower is what claims to be the bakery that invented pasteis da nata (apols if misspelt) - Portuguese custard tarts 😋

Right next to the tower is a monument to the first aerial crossing of the South Atlantic which features a full-scare steel sculpture of a Fairey III seaplane.  Very impressive (and IIRC very accurate).

So much to see in Lisbon courtesy of good public transport.  Lonely Planet guidebook is a must!
