Nick

I'd agree with Lee in that it's never to late to retrain as long as you have an idea of what you want to do.

At least you have time to think about what you want to do. We are heading for some pretty dark times in the job market unfortunately and my only advice would be to seek some professional advice. There are lots of Government bodies which under normal circumstances offer this type of advice. Unfortunately we aren't in normal times so most of it is likely to be on-line, which I personally would find awkward, but then I'm not in the group it's aimed at.

I have a meeting next week with my manager to discuss the proposed new contract and how it will affect me. It will be a good time to talk about staying on but having hours that suit part time learning or evening classes etc.

If it wasn't for this virus situation and major job competition it would be a good time for me to move on.

Bit of a waste of time as new pay details haven't been released yet  :banghead:

But did confirm that we will be moved from salary to hourly pay and we no longer get paid for lunch hour. That means I lose 5 hours per week, effectively £2500 a year. That is just for starters because we could be on a lower hourly pay too.

That changes an awful lot of your conditions of employment Nick, although they could keep them the same. Normally salaried is more secure although hourly can have some benefits. However they could just be "clever" and play mix and match and draft a contract that combines the best of both worlds as far as they are concerned. That seems to be the way things are going at the moment. Even local councils are starting to do it with people who previously thought they had a job for life. :-\

Sorry to hear that Nick.  Retraining is a good option, like Lee says you're never too old.  If it works out it could be a blessing in disguise.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

My model mojo is gone. Spent the last week stressing about the massive paycut that puts me back 10 years.

Applied online for 6 new jobs today, just got to wait and see.

Stay positive, brother! Hopefully you'll soon find something that suits your needs and you'll be able to put all of this behind your back.

Fingers crossed Nick. Keep looking and try hard to keep your chin up.  Not easy, I know, I was in a similar situation some years back. I was temping so money was coming in but with no certainty.  Kept applying and it led eventually to the employer I'm with now, I've been there seventeen years.  Hopefully you'll find something better.

Do your best to stay positive, Nick old chap.  Donít give up, stuff will get better.  Immerse yourself in something that grabs your attention, inspires you.  Doesnít matter what.  Thereís more important matters than modelling, youíll come back to it when youíre ready, matey.

Every time I got kicked around in the job market I ended up in a better situation. Keep the faith and keep digging!
