I have actually managed to get onto the workbench, not much room for myself, but figuratively speaking I got onto the workbench today. Bits of plastic have even been glued together!

Maybe I should be buying my lottery tickets today rather than yesterday?

So I was online looking for some decals for a future build, nothing unusual about that. What got me was that once I found what I was looking for I could not check out the item. Very odd I thought. So as they had contact information on their web page I dropped them an email asking about the reason why the UK was not listed, nor could I register with their site.

The answer was this:

"Hi Alistair,

Sorry, but as of January 1, 2021 we can no longer sell to the United Kingdom from our website because the United Kingdom now requires all on-line companies outside of the UK to register and collect UK VAT.  We are not interested in collecting another country's taxes for them for free, therefore Ultracast will no longer accept website orders from the United Kingdom.  Unfortunately, the UK is the only country in the world that has this policy.  Other countries would like you to collect their taxes for them, but if you do not, their customs service will simply charge the customer the required taxes once the order arrives in their country.
"

I didn't know about this, but it does explain why when ordering items from outside the UK I can't always buy from a company.

Thanks for that offer, Pellson. I managed to get the item I was after, as that company sells on eBay, and they were very helpful by adding the item I was after to that outlet.

Agreed, we can all help out with this problem. If anyone needs anything re-routed, just let us know.  ;)

The thing about this problem is that it's not all companies in a country. It's a case-by-case decision by individual companies, and I don't really blame them. It's a bit like self-checkout as a supermarket but with companies doing the work for the UK government rather than the individual doing the work for the supermarket.
Most of the time I am looking for an out-of-production item so the options od where to get said item can be rather limited.

So it's only another three weeks until it's the Scottish Nationals. So what do I do? Start a couple of models for the show  :banghead:

To be fair, both of them are quite simple, I also have most of the week before the show as holidays so it is possible. Both aircraft also have simple colour schemes as well which helps matters.

One kit is resin and the other is plastic. The former is the Omega 1/72 kit of the V.L. Pyӧrremyrsky, the plastic kit is by Fujimi in 1/144 scale of the Nakajima G10N. A word of warning for anyone that buys the Fujimi kit of this aircraft, in either version, remove the pegs for the snap-together aspect of it, they are a hindrance rather than an asset, have a guess at how I know.

Nice that you're taking one for the team and sharing your reconnaissance experiences - we appreciate it!

I'm not the first of our ilk to build this kit. There was one on show at The Hinkley Show Yesterday. It can be seen at the far back right in the picture.

So today has been a good day..... NOT !!!

A few weeks ago I changed the driver's door mirror on my car as it would not extend properly. In the process, I lost one of the retaining screws inside the door. At the start of last week I received a replacement and yesterday I fitted the new screw, at the second attempt as I left some of the tools I needed inside when I was outside where I needed them  :banghead:
Everything went well, no need to use the blu tack I had to make sure the screw stayed in the socket thankfully. Sundays I go and visit my mum in the early afternoon, today by foot as the car would not start and the remote control for the doors would not work  :banghead:  :banghead:
While walking the mile and a bit to my mum's I phoned one of my sisters to come over and help get my car started, I keep jump leads in the car. So after my visit, my sister picks me up from our mum's and drives me home where we attempt to perform CRP on my car! My sister even asked if she was going to get an electric shock at one point
Of course, I did realise when we got back to my place that the jump leads were in the back of the car and of course the remote was not working and there is only one keyhole and that's for the driver's door. As the car is a hatch-back that problem was not too bad, open the rear door and then folded down one of the seats and I could get the leads out of the emergency bag
Got the car started with almost no more problems thankfully, other than having to reset the dam clock again after changing it to British Summertime last weekend. After leaving the car to run for a bit, followed by a mug of tea, I have just got back from some shopping at a supermarket only 0.1 miles away, but this time I took the long way around, about twenty minutes by going onto the M9 at junction 10, down to Junction 9 and them back towards the supermarket and my home a short distance afterwards. I was very glad to see on the route that the calculated distance possible to travel with the petrol in the car started to work as not knowing that does worry me a little, well ok, quite a lot  :-\
I wish tomorrow was Sunday and not today so I could rest properly after that.

Cars do tend to get to you like that.  :banghead:

I can sometimes understand the Fawlty Towers episode when Basil beats merry hell out of his Morris 1100 with a tree branch.........................
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yes, but this car has been rather good to me so far.

I do have a spare battery for the spare remote, I have not fitted it so it can't go flat but it is now next to that spare key and a new pair of spares have been bought for general use as I think they fit my electronic claipiers.

The car started with no problem this morning and for me coming home today so all is good with that. Modelling wise I have progressed with the G10. Filler has been applied to hide various seams and joints on the wings and I am test-fitting the bomb bays as I may have to fettle them to get a nice clean fit. I need to get the turrets assembled which involves filing the attachment point which is on the rear of each turret, I am bound to lose some of the barrels from handling them, I can just tell as they are so small and thin.

As I have been off sick due to problems with my breathing I have been doing bits and bobs on the G10. This afternoon I applied the first paint! This thing has a lot of propellors! I painted 54 this afternoon including the spinners.
