Lovely job on a kit that I didn't even know existed! And Ukraine schemes are sort of like Tuskegee schemes: a thumbed nose at people who deserve it!

I looked up the book in the background, seems like a lovely one for me to pick up and donate to the local school library. Thanks!

#1056
and another one done...
This time one that ive been slowly working through since June.
The first Kit our own Scautomoton put out there.

Yes, it is the Armstrong Whitworth AW169 interceptor, operated by 5 squadron RAF circa 1970.  Why 5 sqn? Simple my old cadet squadron Was 5F Northampton ATC. Its therefore one of my 3 go-to RAF fighter squadrons, the other two being 43 and 56. all three squadrons are highly whiffable..
The last photo shows it with my recent Ukrainian M2K-D as a size comparison, this thing is big!

This is the third one of Stuarts AW169 kits to see the light of day on here. Lets just say it was a joy to build. It looked scarey in the box, but once I got started it went together very nicely. A very well thoughtout parts breakdown made the job easier than I expected.
I made a point of taking it slowly (by my standards) with the Ukrainian mirage being a side project to keep me occupied while I let the 169 sections I had just glued cook off. The only fly in the ointment, and its purly my own cack handedness is the Vac form canopies. I've never realy mastered them, so any poor fit / poor finishing on the clear parts is all down to me and my own lack of ability with vacform clear parts.

The paint job was Rattle can light aircraft grey on the undersides and airbrushed Gunze Dark sea grey and RAF Dark Green on the topsides. My collection of AK paint pens saw quite a bit of action on this build as well.
The decals came from various odds and ends with the 5 squadron maple leaf bar on the fin comeing from a genuine Frog Gloster Javelin kit from the deep stash. the decals must be older than I am, so they had a coat of decal film a few hours before application to make sure they didnt break up.
The rest where a mix of Xtradecal, Fantasy Print shop, Airfix, Revell and even some old Esci decals from one of the old decal sets they issued.....
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Size (of the stash) matters.

Very nice job on the AW 169 Martin. I have one on the bench at the moment that I am slowly picking away at. Mine is going to be a dedicated photo recce bird with fuselage mounted cameras in the nose and tail cone. It will be painted Hemp over light aircraft grey like the Canberra PR 9's, and have a similar service life.

Nice one Martin. I look forward to seeing it at SMW.

And maybe @chrisonord s too?.....
