Whilst on our recent travels we came across a Centurion in a cage at a roadside rest stop.  I presume the cage is there to protect it from children and other menaces who might climb on it and injure it in some way.  They might bruise it or cut its delicate skin or cause it to fall.
It makes taking decent pictures a pain.

You can of course stick your phone through the mesh to take pictures but you can't get decent ones.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.  Revelling in numptytism.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Wow, what a tale of endurance! That tank REALLY saw a life.  :thumbsup:

There's a WW1 tank on display in Ashford over here that doesn't have a cage around it to prevent people climbing over it, although I'm quite sure nobody's ever taken advantage...

When I was there there was obviously someone sleeping on it, as there were pillows and blankets and bags of clothes on top.

And what a tale for that centurion!
Perfect is the enemy of Finished. I presume. I've never achieved either.

There are numerous uncaged AFVs in Australia, including the Leopard 1AS in the Soldiers' Memorial Park in Echunga;

And another at Two Wells;

Two reasons for caging the Cent;

1.) It's possessed by an ancient God of War & tries to go hunting if not restrained, or
2.) A nanny-state, "risk averse" council not wanting the Unholy Demons of the Darkest Pits of Hell ... dear little children to get hurt falling off of it.
Has a life outside of What-If & wishes it would stop interfering!

its caged for our protection,....  its gone feral,  and at any provocation will rampage round the area.   ;D
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.
wow, its like freefalling into the Geofront

OR it's owned by someone who intends to restore it, and the cage keeps out souvenir hunters.

Or keep out Emus; don't want to give them ideas.

Just imagine the carnage if a desperate gang of rampant koalas got hold of it!

Well there ya go, I have seen this very vehicle when it was at Moliagul, there were two of them and some 5.5 inch Field Guns, just languishing in a paddock.
Bendigo RSL has an unfettered version in their back area, along with a Leopard, 25 Pounder, Bofors, Prototype version of the Bushmaster (as they are built in Bendigo), Australian LP1 Carrier and other bits like a turret from a Destroyer (River Class I think) and a replica Spitfire. Damn fine bistro and weapons collection as well. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

We had lunch at Echunga (The Plough cafe - damn fine food) and passed the Leopard twice but I didn't get a chance to take pics of it.

The RSL in Hahndorf has a 200mm(?) German trench mortar.  When we were there looking at it there was a small child who was not satisfied with mummy and daddy's explanations regarding why they couldn't make it go bang...

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Having seen the damage caused to old steam locomotives in parks that were open
to all and sundry for decades, caging the Centurion makes sense, especially with
the history of that particular vehicle.

Never underestimate the ability of the public to feck things up, intentionally
and unintentionally.

Captain Canada

Quite the history on that machine ! Too bad it's caged up like that. Almost pointless to even display it.
CANADA KICKS arse !!!!

Would you rather have people climbing all over it, breaking bits off as souvenirs and being tagged by pathetic local would be 'bangers/hard men?
🧐
The cage doesn't interfere with looking at the vehicle, it just protects it from eejits.
